Quint finishes two outs from a no-hitter; Lady Tigers win 7-0 over No. 13 Ottawa

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Senior Neely Quint twirled a complete-game shutout one-hitter, as No. 12 Campbellsville softball defeated No. 13 Ottawa University, 7-0.

The Lady Tigers improve their overall record to 13-3 and 3-1 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic at the South Commons Softball Complex. CU plays its fifth and final game of The Classic at 4 p.m. ET vs. Thomas University.

Quint (9-0) sat down the first 17 Braves but an error ruined the perfect game opportunity. With one-out in the seventh, Quint allowed a single but a 5-4-3 double play on the next batter ended the game.

She finished tossing 79 pitches and struck out four.

Ottawa tossed out three pitchers, as Campbellsville lit up Morgan Price in the first three innings. The Lady Tigers put up a two-spot in the second inning as Mia Aldridge delivered her second home run of the season – a two-run shot with two outs.

The Lady Tigers scored another two-out run in the third, as Tori Humphrey singled in Ryleigh Oldham to put CU ahead, 3-0.

In the fourth, Aldridge walked to lead off the frame and Rebecca Miller delivered a sac fly to give CU a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers broke It open in the fifth with two more runs. Brianna Scott walked and Ryley Whitney singled up the middle to put runners on first and second with no outs. Kalin Bottoms pinch-ran for Whitney at first base and Aldridge laid down a sac bunt to move the runners up 60-feet. But an error by Alexa Romero attempting to back-pick Bottoms at second base sailed into left field allowing Scott and Bottoms both to score unearned runs.

CU added an insurance run in the sixth after taking advantage of another error. A one-out walk to Scott and double by Aldridge down the right field line set up Kelly Wheeler reaching on a two-out error. CU scored four of its seven runs with two outs.

Aldridge led the Lady Tigers with two hits and two RBI and two runs scored. Campbellsville had every opportunity to break the game open by leaving the bases loaded twice and leading a combined 11 runners on base.

After a few hour break, CU plays its fifth and final game of The Classic at 4 p.m. ET vs. Thomas University.
