No. 17 Women’s Tennis gets back on winning track and edges No. 20 Cumberland, 5-4

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's women's tennis team moved to 3-0 in Mid-South Conference action after upending No. 20 Cumberland University at home on Thursday, 5-4.
 
After suffering their first loss of the season last time out, the Lady Tigers (9-1, 3-0 MSC) got back on the winning track with the win over the Phoenix (6-7, 0-1 MSC) at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
 
Campbellsville earned the early 1-0 lead in the match with the duo of Kaede Amano and Majella Nobile picking up an 8-2 win over Ainhoa Garijo Garrido and Marianela Landi at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Cumberland evened the match at one after Joana Bou and Stefanie Navaratnam winning 8-3 over Bailey Decker and Brooklyn Harris at No. 3 doubles.
 
Bolor Enkhbayar and Grace Rowe handed the Lady Tigers a 2-1 lead after wining 8-5 at No. 2 doubles against Jasmine Shankar and Ana Maria Collazos.
 
The momentum for Campbellsville carried over into singles competition with Nobile rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Belen Salazar Yanez at the third-seeded singles match. Amano – who is ranked No. 24 in singles in the NAIA – upset 10th-ranked Garijo Garrido at No. 1 singles in straights. Amano's 6-3, 6-3 win put the Lady Tigers one point away from securing the match at 4-1.
 
Enkhbayar clinched the match with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles against Landi. With the match in hand, the Phoenix stormed back with three-straight wins. At No. 5 singles, Harris lost, 6-2, 6-0 to Shankar, then Rowe dropped a three-set contest to Bou, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
 
Rounding out the match, Navaratnam made the final score 5-4 in favor of the Lady Tigers after beating Decker, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Campbellsville is back in action on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET against Lindenwood University-Belleville at the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.
