GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team split a doubleheader on the road at Georgetown College to start Mid-South Conference action. Campbellsville took the first game, 5-4, but dropped game two, 5-3, at Robert N. Wilson Field.
During the doubleheader, Campbellsville's (17-9, 1-1 MSC) offense racked up 17 hits and Georgetown (16-10, 2-3 MSC) compiled 14.

DePaul Blunt all recorded three hits over the two games for Campbellsville.

In the series opener of what was slated to be a pitcher's dual, the two team combined for nine runs and 12 hits.
Campbellsville got off to another strong start scoring in the first inning for the 18th time this season. Valdez was hit by a pitch in an 0-2 count to start the game and Solis then singled off a bunt to place two runners on base. The line kept moving for Campbellsville with a single from Housden that scored Valdez from second base.

Logan Roberts,
Tyler Deason grounded out to second base allowing Solis to scamper home from third on the play to put Campbellsville ahead, 2-0.
The visiting Tigers tacked on two more runs in the the third inning with Housden doubling down the left field line scoring Solis from second base – who started the inning with a single and a stolen base. Two batters later Deason hit a sacrifice fly out to left field and Housden slid in under the tag to run the Campbellsville lead to four runs.
Parker Loutensock was dealing to start the game and retired the first eight batters in a row. However, the run came to an end with two outs in the third inning and John Shattles hit a solo home run to left field making it a 4-1 ball game.
Campbellsville answered back with a run in the fourth inning with an unearned run. Valdez drove in
Jalen Horton with a single to left field with two outs after Horton reached base on an error. Campbellsville scored five runs against Shawn Dubin, who entered the game with five runs allowed in his 48 innings of work.
The long ball continued to pay dividends for Georgetown with Brandon Benson sending a two-run shot over the left field fence to pull the home Tigers back within two runs.
Georgetown continued its comeback attempt with another run in the bottom half of the seventh inning to make 5-4 in favor of Campbellsville. Over the final 2-1/3 innings, the duo of
Justin Phillips and
DJ Wilson shut the door on Georgetown to preserve the victory allowing just one base runner over the final seven outs.
Loutensock (3-0) earned the win throwing six innings allowing three runs on four hits and notching seven strikeouts.
Kirby Broadbent faced two batters allowing a run on a hit and a walk. Phillips threw two innings without allowing a hit and Wilson grabbed his fourth save of the year throwing the ninth inning surrendering just a walk.
Dubin (6-1) suffered his first loss of the season after throwing all nine innings. He gave up five runs – four earned – on seven hits. Dubin did not allow a walk and matched his season-high with 14 strikeouts.
Georgetown 5, Campbellsville 3
Georgetown jumped out to the fast start in game two with a run in the bottom of the first inning. However, Campbellsville had its shot at striking first, but after a single and pair of fielder's choices, Housden stole second and then tried to steal third, but was thrown out on a tight play at third base.
To start the bottom of the first inning, Chris Gilbody doubled and scored on single from Antonio Monroy.
Marco Murillo induce a double play ball to douse the Georgetown threat and limit the damage to one.
Georgetown's offense continued to roll with four more runs on four hits in the third inning. Gilbody homered to start the inning and then Benson hit a two-RBI double to increase the lead. Murillo almost got out of the inning with his only strikeout out of the day, but on the drop third strike
Shane Stober threw the ball high to Deason at first and allowed Benson to score and Ryan Garner to reach on the error.
Campbellsville answered with a three spot in the next half inning on four hits. After leaving five runners on base over the first three innings, Campbellsville finally cashed in with three runs in the fourth inning.
Stober made up for the error with a double to centerfield scoring two runs and cutting the deficit to three runs. Valdez followed with a single back up the middle scoring
Chris Taitague – pinch runner for Stober – and cutting the Georgetown lead to 5-3. Campbellsville's threat was extinguished after a double play ended the inning.
Offenses for both teams settled down over the final three innings as Campbellsville notched just one hit in the sixth inning and another in the seventh, while Georgetown recorded just one hit in the fifth inning to cap off the offense for the game.
Murillo (1-1) threw the first three innings for Campbellsville allowing five runs – four earned – on eight hits. Roberts tossed the final three stanzas giving up just a hit and recording four strikeouts.
Kyle Fieger (1-3) grabbed his first win of the year throwing six innings allowing three runs on nine hits. Breion Barron earned the save giving up just one hit in the seventh inning.
The series finale between Georgetown and Campbellsville is set for Sunday in Georgetown, Ky., with the time of first pitch still to be determined.
