Warman is tied for seventh; Tigers are in sixth after opening round of Phoenix Invitational

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. — After the opening round of the Cumberland University Phoenix Invitational, Tiger golf sits in sixth place with a score of 314.
 
The Tigers are 22 strokes off the lead, as Tennessee Wesleyan leads the team tournament with a first-round 292. Martin Methodist is second, but five strokes behind, at 297. Host Cumberland University and University of Pikeville are tied for third at 298.
 
Campbellsville's Justin Warman leads the Tigers after a one-over 73. Warman currently sits tied for seventh with Eli Marty of Martin Methodist and Burgess Clark of Pikeville.
 
Freshman Austin Mahoney is tied for 39th after firing an eight-over 79. Halen Stamper and Justin Riffle are right behind with 10-over 81s and are tied for 42nd.
 
Rounding of the Top 5 is Lucas Gover's 84. He is tied for 50th.
 
In the individual standings, Tennessee Wesleyan's Tanner Harris fired the lone round in the 60s. Harris shot a three-under 68 to lead by two strokes over Garrett Daniel of Cumberland (70).
 
The second round of the Cumberland University Phoenix is scheduled to tee off at Old Hickory Country Club at 9:30 a.m. ET.
