Tigers improve in final round but remained in sixth at the Cumberland Invitational

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. — Tiger golf improved eight strokes and shot the third-lowest score of the second round at the Cumberland University Phoenix Invitational to finish in sixth place.
 
The Tigers improved but could not overcome a 13-stroke deficit from the first round to get inside the Top 5. Cumberland University shot the lowest score of the day with a final round 297 to jump into first place. Martin Methodist maintained its spot in second, while Tennessee Wesleyan fell off the pace 20 strokes to finish tied for third with University of Pikeville.
 
Justin Warman fell back four positions to be tied for 11th after rounds of 73-77. Warman was followed by freshman Austin Mahoney as he improved two strokes, 79-77, to jump 10 positions up the leaderboard.
 
Halen Stamper also improved in the second round to jump up 10 positions. Stamper shot 81-76 in the two-round tournament to finished tied for 32nd.
 
Justin Riffle followed suit by improved seven positions. He shot 81-77 to finish tied for 35th. Rounding out the Tigers was Lucas Gover's 84-76 to finish tied for 42nd.
 
Cumberland University's Garrett Daniel shot matching 70s to win earn medalist honors by three strokes.
 
The Tigers get back on the links on Monday-Tuesday, April 9-10 for the Mid-South Conference Spring Championship at Dale Hollow Golf Course.
