Shawnee State is bailed out with 0.4 seconds and hits free throws to end CU's hopes of a MSC title

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Shawnee State's Hannah Miller was bailed out by a foul with 0.4 seconds on the clock and hit two free throws to seal the Bears fourth-straight Mid-South Conference Tournament title, 81-79, over No. 3 Campbellsville.

Entering the fourth quarter, Campbellsville trailed 59-51 but Madison Clements sparked Campbellsville (28-5) with four final-quarter triples to rally the Lady Tigers.

The first three came at the 8:10 mark and she followed two minutes later to pull CU within seven, 64-57. From the 6:23 mark to 5:00 left, Clements banged three more triples to cut the lead to two, 67-65.

On the next possession down the court, Clements was fouled on a 3-point attempt and hit all three free throws to pull CU within one, 69-68. Clements finished hitting 4-of-7 from 3-point land and scored 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers.

With 3:53 left, Campbellsville regained the lead. Caitlin Hall got in on the action with her second 3 of the day to give Campbellsville a two-point advantage, 71-69.

But it was Shawnee State's Ashton Lovely showing off her range with her third 30-footer to answer and give the Bears a 75-71 lead right back. Lovely finished with three of the 11 3-point field goals, while Bailey Cummins made all four of her triples.

Cummins teamed up with Madison Ridout to lead the Bears with 18 points apiece.

The final 3:00 was an absolute knock-down drag out by two heavyweight boxers.

Hall used a no-look dish to Jordan Doram in the paint to get the deficit back to one, 76-75. But it was SSU's Hannah Miller once again stepping up when her team needed her. Miller buried her second 3 of the day to answer and give the Bears a four-point lead right back.

CU then scored four straight to tie it up. Hall found Doram on an in-bounds pass and Clements hit a runner in the lane with 12 seconds left to put the score at 79-all.

That's when Miller drove and missed her first shot, grabbed her own board and was bailed out with the foul call on Doram with 0.4 seconds remaining. The 89 percent free throw shooter made both free throws.

Recap of the first half:
Campbellsville and Shawnee State went to the hot hands of the tournament in the opening minutes of the game. The Lady Tigers' Jordan Doram, coming off a career-high 26 points, scored the first two baskets for Campbellsville.

The Bears went to the leading scorer of the tournament, Miller (17.5ppg), as she knocked down an early triple. Campbellsville forced four steals in the opening five minutes but could only turn that into two points. Shawnee State led 7-4 midway through the opening frame.

A three-pointer by Campbellsville's Madison Kaiser sparked a 9-2 run to close the first quarter, as Caitlin Hall beat the buzzer to give the Lady Tigers a 13-9 lead after the first.

Shawnee State jumped out to a quick start in the second -- scoring eight unanswered -- giving the Bears a 17-13 lead with 8:46 remaining in the quarter. Campbellsville was able to take a quick one-point lead after a triple from Hall, but Shawnee State's Ashton Lovely answered with a three of her own, making the score 28-26 in favor of the Bears.

Shawnee State lead for the remainder of the half and held a 37-31 advantage over the Lady Tigers at intermission. The Bears outshot Campbellsville (48.1-40.6) and led the turnover battle, 10-8 after two quarters. Cummins scored 13 points in the first half, while Faulkner paced the Lady Tigers with eight.
