Whitney continues at the plate and Gailor throws one-hitter in sweep over Kentucky Christian

Morgan Gailor tossed her first-career one-hitter in CU's 3-0 win in game two vs. KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. — Lady Tiger softball used three crooked-run innings to score eight of their nine runs and Morgan Gailor tossed her first-career one-hitter to lead No. 4 Campbellsville to a doubleheader sweep over Kentucky Christian.

The Lady Tigers extended their record to 33-4 overall with a 6-1 and 3-0 victory.

Neely Quint was two outs away from a complete-game shutout in the first game after tossing seven innings and striking out one. She improves her record to a perfect 21-0 on the season – which leads the MSC and second in the country.

Gailor (11-4) was three outs away from a no-hitter in game two after tossing her fourth-straight complete-game and striking out three.

Ryley Whitney had another stellar day at the plate, compiling two hits in each and going 4-for-7 on the day with two doubles and a couple singles. Since the Cumberland University series in late March, Whitney has upped her average from .319 to .390 in two-plus weeks.

Tori Humphrey and Jacqueline Roof followed with three hits each, as Humphrey drove in three and scored three and Roof scored twice.

As posting time, CU extended its conference lead over Lindsey Wilson to four games, as the Blue Raiders lost 5-4 to Shawnee State in game one. LWC and SSU were in the middle of the second game once this story was posted.

Campbellsville and KCU will meet again on Saturday afternoon at 10 a.m. ET for another doubleheader. Both games will air on the CU Sports Network.

Game one: Campbellsville 6, Kentucky Christian 1

It looked as if CU would break the game open in the first inning, as the Lady Tigers had five straight hits to start the game – rotating from doubles to singles. With Roof and Rebecca Miller on third and second, Humphrey drove them both in with an RBI double down the left field line. Alexis Smith then scored Humphrey from second with an RBI single to left.

But Whitney McKay calmed down in the circle for KCU and worked three straight outs to end the threat.

Moving to the second, CU scored two more as Jordan Ison drove in both with a double to left field.

The Lady Tigers added another in the fifth on an RBI double by Scott.

Outside of run-scoring innings, McKay sat the Lady Tigers down 1-2-3 in every other frame.

Game two: Campbellsville 3, Kentucky Christian

Roof led off the game once again by reaching – this time on a walk – and CU looked as if it would score in the first, but Roof was thrown out at home after a single by Whitney for the third out.

In the third, Roof, Miller and Humphrey all singled to start the frame – Humphrey's was an RBI hit – to put CU ahead, 2-0. Whitney followed with a two-out single to right to score CU's third run.

Gailor walked a couple batters and allowed a fielder's choice through the first six innings to set up the one-hit bid. After allowing a leadoff walk in the second, Gailor sat down 12-straight batters before falling victim to another leadoff walk in the sixth. But each time, she worked out of jams.

A leadoff single by Cassie Adkins spoiled the no-hit bid to lead off the seventh but Gailor earned her third strikeout of the game – all looking – to seal the win.
