BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Campbellsville's men's tennis team seen its Mid-South Conference Tournament run come to a close after falling to top-seeded and No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 5-1, in the tournament semifinals at Warren East High School.
The Tigers (13-6) now wait to see if they earn an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship next month in Mobile, Alabama.
Campbellsville got off to a strong start after taking No. 2 doubles with
Chrys Castro and
Adrian Sabrojo beating Ivan Solans Diaz and Javier Raya, 8-3, to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0. However, the Blue Raiders (13-0) bounced back and won the final two double contests.
At No. 3 doubles,
Blayze O'Keefe and
Martin Munoz dropped a 9-7 contest, while the decisive doubles match went to Lindsey Wilson after Camilo Erazo and Denis Porcic outlasted
Pablo Alonso Munoz and
Alejandro Reyes at No. 1 doubles in a tight 9-8 (7-3) match.
Heading into the singles portion of the match, the Blue Raiders won the top three singles matches in straight sets. No. 5 Porcic beat No. 11 Reyes, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1 singles in a top-11 matchup. Castro suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Erazo to put the Blue Raiders ahead, 4-1. At No. 3 singles, O'Keefe lost to Edberg Espinoza, 7-5, 6-1, and ended the match with Lindsey Wilson earning a 5-1 victory.
Over the final three remaining singles matches, the Tigers were up a set and ahead in the second set at No. 5 and 6 singles, but were down a set and tied in set two at No. 4 singles, before the match had been won by the Blue Raiders.
Campbellsville now waits to see if it will garner an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship in Mobile, Ala., later in May.
