MOBILE, Ala. – Campbellsville did not drop a game on day one of the NCCAA National Championship after it beat Brewton-Parker College and Judson University in a pair of 5-0 contests at the Mobile Tennis Center
The Tigers (15-6) round out pool play on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. ET against Bluefield College – who also sits at 2-0 in Pool A.
Campbellsville 5, Brewton-Parker 0
The Tigers rolled to start their NCCAA National Championship run with a 5-0 win over the Barons (6-11). Campbellsville's pair of
Alejandro Reyes and
Pablo Alonso Munoz won at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, against Travis McCaig and Branden Lewis. The lone shutout of doubles play came from
Chrys Castro and
Adrian Sabrojo – who beat Wyatt Morris and Malik Hollis, 8-0.
Putting the Tigers ahead, 3-0, was
Blayze O'Keefe and
Martin Munoz with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles over Paul Taylor and Caleb Bellamy.
Needing just two points in singles play, Castro won via retirement against McCaig, where Castro leading, 6-1, 3-0, at No. 1 singles. The final point from Campbellsville came from
Alberto Perez with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against Lewis.
The Tigers were up at set in the final four matches as they earned a 5-0 victory to start the tournament.
Campbellsville 5, Judson 0
Campbellsville picked up where it left from the morning session to post its second-straight 5-0 victory. The Tigers dropped just four games in the three double matches. At No. 3 doubles, O'Keefe and Munoz posted an 8-0 win over Michael Bruen and Trevor Butler. Then at No. 2 doubles, Castro and Sabrojo earned an 8-1 decision over Riley Rowan and Joshua Gronowski.
Rounding out doubles action, Reyes and Alonso Munoz beat Christopher Veltkamp and Elisha Hougland, 8-3.
The duo of O'Keefe and Sabrojo clinched the 5-0 victory for the Tigers with a pair of straight-set wins. Sabrojo won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles against Gronowski and O'Keefe grabbed a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rowan.
In the remaining matches, the Tigers won the first set in three of those matches, while No. 1 singles was tied in the first set.
With the victory, Campbellsville sets up a battle for the top spot in Pool A against Bluefield on Thursday.
