Quint's perfect season ends but Lady Tigers salvage a series win over Shawnee State on Senior Day

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Neely Quint's perfect slate unfortunately ended on Senior Day, but Morgan Gailor backed her up with a complete-game shutout in game two to salvage a series win over Shawnee State.

The fourth-ranked Lady Tigers were upset by the Bears in game one, 7-6, but the Lady Tigers earned a run-rule victory in game two, 9-0.

With the split, Campbellsville moves to 39-6 on the season and 21-3 inside the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers now head to Lindsey Wilson College next weekend to decide the regular season title.

The perfect season for Quint (24-1) had to end at some point but unfortunately for Quint it came to an end on senior day. The senior got roughed up in game one allowing a season-high seven runs and throwing 122 pitches.

In game two, Morgan Gailor improved to 14-5 after throwing her fourth complete-game shutout of the season.

Jacqueline Roof and Brianna Scott delivered home runs on Senior Day to cap their careers at Hord Field and Veterans Memorial Park (VMP). Scott's was a walk-off to secure the run-rule win in game two. Tori Humphrey also hit a solo homer – her team-leading 10thof the season – in game one.

The final senior, Rebecca Miller, had a couple hits as well including scoring three runs on the day to cap her career at VMP.

Game one: Shawnee State 7, Campbellsville 6

The Bears struck first in the opening frame and Campbellsville was never able to regain a lead. A couple of one-out singles were followed with a 3-run home run by Kayla Koch to put SSU ahead, 3-0. Then Stacey Trenholm went back-to-back to put the Bears up 4-0.

The Lady Tigers got a run back in the fourth, as Alexis Smith scored Rebecca Miller from third on an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.

The Bears got a run back in the top of the fourth, though. Quint allowed three straight singles, capped by an RBI hit by Haley Rawlins.

In the bottom of the fourth, CU had an opportunity with the bases loaded and one out, but Roof grounded out to pick up an RBI and cut the score back to three, 5-2.

The Lady Tigers struck gold in the final couple innings, though. Smith and Ryley Whitney both singled and Scott was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Mia Aldridge. A ground ball by Aldridge led to a run as SSU's Michal Cunningham threw the ball away attempting to gun-down Smith at home on the force.

Jordan Ison then pinch-hit for Dana Adkins with one out and delivered a sac fly.

SSU extended its lead back to two in the sixth inning after three straight hits with two outs scored a run. But Campbellsville rallied in the bottom half. Roof led off the frame with a solo shot and two batters later, Humphrey delivered here solo home run to tie it at six.

But Quint was unable to keep the Bears off the board in the seventh. SSU strung together three straight hits to start the frame and was called with an RBI single by Trenholm for the game-winner.

Humphrey and Whitney both went 2-for-4 in the first game to lead CU at the plate, while Roof drove in two.

Game two: Campbellsville 9, Shawnee State 0

The Lady Tigers broke loose in the first and fifth innings for all nine of their runs. CU brought all nine batters to the plate in the opening frame and scored runs on a Humphrey single, Whitney double and Dana Adkins single.

Gailor worked out of a jam in the second inning after allowing a pair of hits. In the fifth, the Bears had another opportunity to strike a few runs but Gailor picked up her third strike out to Katelyn Gleich to end the threat.

In the bottom half, Miller started the rally with a single and stole second base. She then scored on a Humphrey single to center field to put CU ahead, 6-0.

Whitney followed with her second RBI double of the day to put CU ahead 7-0 and Scott capped off her senior day with her first homer of the season – a two-run shot to score Kalin Bottoms

Humphrey, Whitney and Scott both had two hits in the finale, as Whitney drove in three and Humphrey and Scott drove in two. Also, Dana Adkins drove in two with an RBI single in the first.
