Deason’s gem and five RBIs from Wallet leads No. 19 Baseball to 7-1 win over No. 9 Bryan

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville's baseball team picked up its fourth-straight win after beating ninth-ranked Bryan College, 7-1, at HIG Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Bryson Wallet paced the Tiger (21-9) offense with five RBIs and going 2-for-4 at the plate. Logan Roberts was the only other player in the game to record at least two hits. Tyler Deason went 7-2/3 innings on the mound where he struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits and a run. Deason's eight strikeouts in the victory matches a season high after recording eight punch-outs in his first outing against Indiana Institute of Technology on February 27.

Campbellsville's bats came alive early with a three spot in the first inning. All three runs came with two outs after a bases loaded double down the right field line from Wallet. Ty Housden started the two-out rally with a single, followed by another single from Roberts. DePaul Blunt loaded the bases with a walk after falling behind 0-2 in the count. Wallet then took an 0-2 pitch to the opposite field driving the three runs.

The Tigers extended their lead to 4-0 after a sacrifice fly from Matthew Valdez brought home Chris Taitague. Taitague pinch ran for Austin Peterson, who led off the second inning with a double to right field and then an error from the Lion right fielder allowed Peterson to move up to third base.

Bryan (28-8) finally got on the board in the third inning with a pair of hits. Tyler Scott reached on a single and moved up to second on a stolen base. With two outs in the inning, Wade Weinburger singled out to centerfield scoring Scott from second base.

After being held scoreless in the third and fourth innings, Wallet drove in two more runs to extend the Tiger lead to 6-1. With runners on second and third, following a pair of singles and an error, Wallet pulled a single threw the left side of the infield to plate Roberts and Blunt.

The seventh and final Campbellsville run came in the sixth inning after a groundout from Housden brought home Taitague for the second time in the game.

Following Deason's stellar start to the ball game, Justin Phillips came in to get the final four outs without allowing a base runner. Deason now moves to 4-1 on the season and he sends the Lions to their third-straight loss. The one run from Bryan on Tuesday was it fewest in game this season. Through the first 35 games of the season for the Lions they scored at least three runs in each game.

The Tigers are back on the road Wednesday afternoon for a 4 p.m. ET contest against Union College in Barbourville, Ky.
