Offense comes alive for Baseball in an elimination-game victory over Midland, 11-5

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After a slow start to the tournament, Campbellsville's offense came alive in game two as it posted an 11-5 victory over Midland University in an elimination game to wrap up the first day of the NAIA Baseball Opening Round at Bowling Green Ballpark.
 
Tyson Solis was 4-for-5 at the dish with a run batted for the Tigers (37-16), while David Montoya went 3-for-5. Tanner Bos was 4-for-5 in the game to lead the Warriors (32-22).
 
Midland got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning, where it started the frame with back-to-back singles. Then with one out, a single from Billy Brand drove in a run and then a groundout from Bryan Smith scored the Warriors' second run of the inning to grab a 2-0 lead.
 
To start the third inning for Midland, Justin Trevino belted a solo home run to give the Warriors a 3-0 edge after three innings.
 
Campbellsville's offense got out of its funk in the top of the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles from Bryson Wallet and Tyler Deason to make it a 3-1 contest. Matthew Valdez got his bat going with a double down the right-field line to make it a one-run game. Solis kept the line moving with a single to centerfield, which scored Valdez from second base to end the top half of fourth inning.
 
Another three-spot from the Tigers gave them their first lead of the game. After a leadoff walk to Logan Roberts, Marco Murillo hit a triple to the gap in left-center field scoring Roberts from first base. Ty Housden delivered a single to left field on the next pitch to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead. With Housden on third base, a passed ball scored the final run of the inning, but Montoya was stranded at third base to end the top of the fifth inning.
 
The Warriors answered back with run in the bottom of the inning with a run that came in with two outs after a balk from Kirby Broadbent.
 
Campbellsville continued to add on to its lead with two more runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Murillo grounded into a double play scoring Valdez – who reached on an error to the start the inning. The miscues continued to haunt Midland with a wild pitch scoring Solis from third bases to give the the Tigers an 8-4 lead.
 
Roberts posted his first triple of the season to give Campbellsville a 9-4 lead in the eighth inning and on the the next pitch, Roberts scored on wild pitch to push the Tiger lead to six runs.
 
Another insurance run came across on a passed ball for the Tigers and Bos hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Warriors as Campbellsville earned an 11-5 victory to stay alive in the national tournament.
 
Anthony Arias (4-0) earned the victory for the Tigers after tossing 1-2/3 innings in relief allowing just one hit and a walk, while striking out three batters. Broadbent threw the first 4-2/3 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. Nick Johnston threw the final 2-2/3 innings allowing three hits and run.
 
Escamilla (7-4) suffered the loss after allowing five runs and six hits in his four-inning start.
 
Campbellsville stays alive in the Bowling Green Bracket and will play fourth-seeded Bellevue University at 2 p.m. CT in an elimination game at Bowling Green Ballpark on Tuesday.
