Doubles sweep paces Men’s Tennis to upset victory over Mobile, 5-1, and into NAIA Quarterfinals

MOBILE, Ala. – After rain halted action on Wednesday, the Tigers returned to action on Thursday morning and upended host and No. 7-seeded University of Mobile, 5-1, to move on to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Championship.
 
Campbellsville returns to action at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night to take on second-seeded Keiser University in the NAIA Quarterfinals as the Mobile Tennis Center.
 
The Tigers (20-6) got off to a fast start with all three doubles points against the Rams (19-3). The No. 3 doubles pair of Blayze O'Keefe and Martin Munoz posted an 8-6 victory over Boris Klingebiel and Jonah Jakubec to get the run started.
 
With all three doubles scores ending, 8-6, in favor of Campbellsville, Chrys Castro and Adrian Sabrojo earned the victory at No. 2 doubles over Illya Filanchuk and Radek Danis. The Tigers took a 3-0 advantage in the match after Alejandro Reyes and Pablo Alonso Munoz grabbed an 8-6 victory at top-seeded doubles against Mark Simmons and Tim Buhler (ranked No. 20 in the NAIA).
 
Heading into the singles portion of the match, Munoz rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles against Javier Ahumada to put the Tigers just one point away from their second-straight quarterfinals appearance.
 
After Mobile posted its first team point at No. 4 singles – where Sabrojo (ranked No. 35 in the NAIA) suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Buhler; Reyes (ranked No. 11 in the NAIA) clinched the 5-1 victory for Campbellsville after upending No. 31 Klingebiel at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
 
In the unfinished matches, Castro won the first set and was tied, 5-5, in the second set at No. 2 singles, while O'Keefe went into the third set and was ahead, 3-0, at No. 3 singles. In the fifth-seeded singles match, Alonso Munoz was down a set and trailing in the second set.
 
The Tigers return to the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals for the second-straight season and face second-seeded Keiser University at 5:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
