Scott's walk-off clinches Campbellsville's fifth MSC title in 10 innings over Georgetown

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Mid-South Conference Softball Championship needed 10 innings and ended in the most excited way for No. 4 Campbellsville. Brianna Scott delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10thinning to score Ryley Whitney from third base to clinch the Lady Tigers' fifth MSC Tournament title over rival Georgetown College, 3-2.

Georgetown scored a go-ahead run in the top of the 10thinning to take a 2-1 lead but the Lady Tigers, who have walked off multiple times all season, rallied once more.

Jacqueline Roof was hit by a pitch to lead off the 10thinning, she moved to second a sacrifice bunt by Rebecca Miller to set up the game-tying hit by Whitney.

Down to her final strike, Whitney delivered a double down the left field line to score Roof and Whitney ended up advancing on an error by Georgetown All-American Chaselyn Allgeier. That setup the fireworks for senior Brianna Scott

Down to her last strike as well, Scott fouled off multiple pitches before setting up the biggest hit of her career to score the game-winner.

Neely Quint was gutless in the circle, tossing a career-high 10 innings, allowing nine hits, two earned runs and throwing 136 pitches. She also struck out five batters to improve her record to 28-2 – matching Victoria Decker's single-season record of 28 set in 2016.

Dana Adkins led the Lady Tigers with two hits, while Roof, Miller, Whitney, Scott, Jordan Ison and Ryleigh Oldham both delivered hits in the win. Adkins also played a stellar third base throughout the tournament in replace of All-American Tori Humphrey

The Lady Tigers got to Georgetown's Hannah Morton (20-8) in the third inning to strike the game's first run but missed a chance for more.

Adkins reached on a one-out single when first baseman Kara Howard lost the pop-up in the sun and it bounced off her leg into foul territory. Roof then doubled off the base of the wall in right-center. Head coach Shannon Wathen waved the runner the whole way and Adkins scored when the throw to the plate from Georgetown shortstop Allison Watson was high and got away. CU led 1-0.

Roof reached third on the overthrow and Rebecca Miller tried a safety squeeze. Howard fielded and looked the runner back, allowing Miller to reach on a base hit and also take second on the play, but Alexis Smith popped out and Ryley Whitney flied out to end the inning with only run coming across.

The Georgetown Tigers threatened in the fourth thanks to a walk to Chaselyn Allgeier to start the inning. Corrin Robinson hit a high chopper to third and Campbellsville's Adkins went to second for the force, but the throw was late, putting runners at first and second with no outs.

Howard bounced to short, but Roof charged the ball and ran into Allgeier for runner's interference and the first out of the inning. Quint then induced an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play off the bat of Skyelar Houston, keeping the CU Tigers in the lead, 1-0.

Georgetown tied the game in the fifth with a one-out double deep down the leftfield line from Katie Young. Alexis Arnold followed with an RBI single to left-center, knotting the contest at one.

Quint worked out of a big jam in the seventh after Georgetown got a one-out single to right from Watson and Young followed with a double down the leftfield lin. But the senior got groundouts to third by Arnold and Hannah Howes to end the inning with the game still tied at one.

Campbellsville got a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh by Ryleigh Oldham and Kelly Wheeler pushed the runner to second with a sacrifice bunt. Adkins popped out and after an intentional walk to Roof, Miller lined sharply to left but Allgeier caught it in her tracks, sending the contest to extra innings.

Pinch-hitter Abigail James singled off Quint's leg with one out in the ninth and with two outs, Young drew an intentional walk. Quint struck out Arnold to end the threat, her fourth strikeout of the game.

Georgetown broke through in the 10th inning after a two-out walk to Algeier, who stole second and scored on Robinson's single to left for a 2-1 edge.

That would set up the big-inning for Campbellsville in the bottom of the 10th

With the win, Campbellsville earns the Mid-South Conference's automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round Championship and will host once again at Michael Buchanon Park in Bowling Green.

The Lady Tigers will find out the other three teams in their bracket at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday evening. A story will be posted on Tuesday morning with information.
