MOBILE, Ala. – The Tigers won Pool A at the NCCAA National Championship after beating fourth-seeded Bluefield College, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Campbellsville now faces second-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday in the semifinals after the Wildcats finished 2-1 in Pool B.
The Tigers (16-6) started strong in doubles competition with
Alejandro Reyes and
Pablo Alonso Munoz winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, over Rodrigo Huarachi and Fedor Kulakov. Campbellsville traded a pair of 8-0 contests with the Rams (12-7) with the Tiger pair of
Chrys Castro and
Adrian Sabrojo winning at No. 2 doubles against Yaroslav Hnatusko and Asher Wiltshire.
Bluefield grabbed its lone team point at No. 3 double with Satoshi Yamada and Michael Gutu winning an 8-0 match against
Blayze O'Keefe and
Martin Munoz.
Needing three singles points in the final pool play match; O'Keefe and Munoz rebounded and earned straight-set wins. O'Keefe won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles against Huarachi, while Munoz grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Gabe Poling at No. 6 singles.
The final victory in singles came from Sabrojo at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Kulakov to seal the 5-1 win for Campbellsville. The Tigers were up at set in two of three remaining matches, while the Rams led the final singles match.
Campbellsville returns to the court on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. ET against Indiana Wesleyan in the tournament semifinals.
