CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Bethel University's Brittany Bray scored just minutes after the second period started and the Wildcats held on late as Campbellsville women's soccer drops its first game of the season, 1-0.
The Lady Tigers (2-1) dominated the possession tonight and out-shot Bethel, 19-6. But Campbellsville could not find the back of the net on five key opportunities.
After the first 45 minutes, Campbellsville led the Wildcats nine shots to Bethel's three but all three attempts for BU (2-1) were on goal. Only four of the nine attempts for the Lady Tigers were on frame.
Bray put the Wildcats ahead in the 48
thminute as Giovanna Ledesma found her teammate by splitting two defenders with a pass. Bray looked to be offsides, but the call didn't go CU's way and the Lady Tigers got down quick in the period.
The unlucky chances kept piling on. In the 65
thminute as
Rachel McWilliams delivered a beautiful corner kick in from the right side by
Molly Hall's header attempt ricocheted off the back of a Bethel defender standing in front of the goal.
With just under two minutes left, freshman
Hope Sanders had an opportunity to knot the match at one but lost her balance at the last moment and her shot just inside the 18-yard box went wide.
Lastly, in the final minute, Campbellsville had two more chances.
Emma Nilsson delivered two perfect corner kicks in from the left wing, but the Lady Tigers couldn't get a foot on the ball.
Sydney Pinkham had a solid game in goal for CU with three saves but did allow her first goal of the season. Her counterpart, Holly Wright, finished the night with eight saves – five of them coming from shots 25-yards and further for CU.
Campbellsville will remain at home and look to get back in the win column as Aquinas College travels to Finley Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET.
