Withrow uses final round 71 to lead Lady Tigers to third-place finish at Bill Sergent Invitational

LONDON, Ky. — Senior Kylie Withrow was one stroke away from matching her career-low and led Campbellsville University women's golf to a third-place finish at the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club.

The Lady Tigers shot 19 strokes better in the final round than they did in round one to jump Indiana University East in the team standings. CU (657) finished 12 strokes behind University of St. Francis (645) and University of the Cumberlands ran away with the team title (596).

Withrow, a senior from Glasgow, Ky., had it going on today. After bogeying her first two holes, Withrow turned her game around with three birdies in the next four holes. It started with a birdie on the par-three 15th, par-four 16thand par-five 18thhole, respectively. On her front-nine holes, Withrow was able to roll in nine straight pars before picking up her fourth birdie on the 10th– her 16thhole.

She led the tournament by finishing one-under on the par threes and was tied for second in the field with five birdies. The second-round 71 moved Withrow up the leaderboard to finish in fourth place.

Madison Ferrie also finished in the Top 5 with 78-75. The freshman from Taylor Co. High School bogeyed her first hole but then birdied the par-five 18thhole – which was her sixth of the day.

After dropping five strokes in a span of four holes on the front, Ferrie finished strong with back-to-back birdied on the seventh and eighth holes before finishing with four straight pars. Her final round 75 moved her into fifth place.

Michaela Jarman and Courtney Withrow also improved on their final round scores to finish strong. Jarman shot 87-81 but failed to card a birdie this week. Today she totaled nine pars and nine bogeys to finish tied for 17th

Withrow improved her second round by two strokes with a 92 to be tied for 38th

Cumberlands won the team title, while Hannah Griffith shot 73-72 (145) to out-last teammates Carlee Shoemaker (146) and Brianna Baird (147) for individual medalist honors.

The Patriots had three players in the top five, while Campbellsville had the other two.

The Lady Tigers will now have two weeks to prepare for the first of three legs in the Mid-South Conference Championship. CU travels to Pikeville, Ky. for the MSC Fall Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 29-30.
