Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Behind three individual double-doubles the Lady Tiger (9-2, 2-0) volleyball team defeated Shawnee State (7-7, 0-2) by a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-13, 25-17) score on Tuesday evening.
Kaite Johnson recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a season high 19 kills as well as 13 digs.
Paige Merrick added her eighth double-double in her first 11 matches with a career high 60 assists as well as 12 digs.
Sonia Flendrich added her first double-double of her career with 16 kills and 14 digs,
Maria Coelho also added 19 kills in the contest.
Jaimie Thompson also added a team high 24 digs.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first and would maintain a five point or better lead until the Bears pulled to within four at 20-16. The Bears got to within two at 22-20 but the Lady Tigers finished off on a 3-0 run to win 25-20. Johnson started her night off on fire as she had seven kills and an ace in the opening set win.
After the Bears won the second set the Lady Tigers bounced back with a 25-13 win in the third set to go up 2-1 in the match. After the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 13-3 lead in the third set behind 10 kills. CU outscored the Bears 12-10 over the final 22 total points.
In the fourth set the two teams stayed within three points of each other until the end. With Campbellsville leading 17-15 it would finish the contest on an 8-2 run en route to the 25-17 fourth set victory. Flendrich recorded a pair of kills and an ace in the final eight points for CU.
The Lady Tigers are now off for a week before they face No. 4 Lindsey Wilson College on September 18 in Columbia, Ky.
