Fighting Tigers head to Grayson seeking win streak against Kentucky Christian

GRAYSON, Ky. — After picking up their first win of the year last weekend, Fighting Tiger football hits the road this week to start Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division play at Kentucky Christian.

The Tigers and Knights kickoff at 1:30 p.m. ET and the Tiger Tailgate Show airs at 1 p.m. on 88.7 The Tiger – the CU Sports Network.

Campbellsville enters after pushing its record to 1-3 last week after a come-from-behind victory over Point University, 30-29. The one-point victory is the fourth in program history and the last since a 15-14 win over Kentucky Christian, 15-14.

Tiger Clawz:
  • The Tigers are entering the week after a 30-29 come-from-behind victory at home over Point University on Saturday.
  • The one-point victory is the fourth in program history and the last since the Kentucky Christian victory in 2012, 15-14. That game saw Casey Clarke kick five field goals to lead the Tigers to the win.
  • The Tigers are now 1-3, which is the fourth time in program history CU has started 3-1.
  • Freshman quarterback Josh Davis relieved senior QB Jeremy Hinds in the first quarter of
  • Saturday's win over Point University and threw for 260 yards on 12-of-22 passing.
  • Davis is listed as QB1 on the depth chart this week for the first time in his career.
  • Ormani Zanders rushed for 115 yards vs. Point last week with two rushing touchdowns. It's the first 100-yard rusher since Chantz Goodman's 121-yard performance vs. Bethel in overtime last year - which included the walk-off rushing TD for the win.
  • Zanders' 78-yard rush to open the scoring against Point is the eighth longest in program history and the longest since Greg Fountain had a 79-yard rush against Belhaven in 2007.
  • Defensive back Bjay Pelt earned his ninth and 10th interceptions of the season last week and was named the MSC Bluegrass Defensive Player of the Week. Pelt earns the honor for the second time in his career after helping lead CU to the 30-29 win.
  • Pelt ranks fifth in the NAIA with three interceptions this season.
  • Kendon Young had 187 yards receiving last week - which is the third-most in a single game.
Series Facts:
  • The Tigers and Knights are meeting for the sixth time in program history with CU leading the series, 5-1.
  • Despite CU holding a 5-1 all-time series lead over Kentucky Christian, the series has been close outside two games.
  • The last three games on the road have been decided by an average of 3.33 points.
  • The Knights won the last matchup between the two programs at home, 12-6, during the
  • In 2012, the Tigers escaped with a 15-14 road win, while earning a 24-21 victory in 2011.
  • The average margin of victory in the series is 15.1 points in favor of Campbellsville. However, if the first and last matchups are taken out -- where the Tigers won by 31 points in 2010 and 33 points in 2017 -- Campbellsville has a 3.75 margin of victory over the last four games against the Knights.
  • In addition, the Tigers have only played at KCU's new stadium twice and it has yet to score a touchdown there.
  • In the 2012 matchup, Casey Clarke made a career-high five field goals vs. KCU. He nailed a 55 and 52-yard FG during that season for the longest in CU history.
  • The 2011 game was moved to Huntington High School after rain and flooding occurred at KCU. The decision to play there was not reached until late the Friday night.
Tigers have yet to score a TD at KCU:
  • In the two games at Kentucky Christian's home field, the Tigers have yet to score a TD.
  • In the 2012 matchup, Casey Clarke kicked five field goals en-route to a 15-14 win. The five field goals in a single game still holds the top spot on the record book.
  • In the 2014 season, the Tigers had one of the best offenses in the country by averaged 31 points per game. But the Knights shut CU out of the end zone.
  • The Tigers scored just six points - two Will Ward field goals of 36 and 19 yards, respectively. KCU defeated CU 12-6 that season.
Southpaw QB has turned heads early:
  • Freshman quarterback Josh Davis has entered the last two games for Campbellsville and has shined in each.
  • Davis entered in the fourth quarter against Cumberlands and went 9-of-12 overally for 81 yards and led the Tigers on to a fourth-quarter score.
  • Against Point University last week, Davis entered once again for the injured Jeremy Hinds and showed signs of a savvy veteran.
  • Davis threw for 260 yards on 12-of-22 passing with a long 62-yard touchdown pass to Kendon Young to start the Tigers' comeback in the fourth quarter.
  • Davis is the second freshman QB to see action this season as Tala Sufia started against Webber International but lasted only two series.
  • Davis is listed as QB1 on the depth chart this week.
