MARIETTA, Ga. – Coming off of their first conference loss and most goals allowed in a game this season, it was important for the Campbellsville University women's soccer team to get back onto the right foot and that is exactly what they did Saturday evening with a 6-1 win over Life University.
The Lady Tigers scored early and often against the Running Eagles behind a three-goal performance by sophomore
Hope Sanders as the midfielder scored her entire hat trick in the second half. Sanders scored the second, third, and sixth goals of the game in the 56
th, 59
th, and 88
th minutes to account for half of CU's scoring output.
The scoring got started in the first half as
Olja Ivanovic got Campbellsville on the board, scoring on an assist from
Lakin Walls in the 33
rd minute for her third of the season.
Between the three goals from Sanders was a pair of goals from freshman
Jessie Bryson about three minutes of game time apart as Bryson got her ninth and 10
th goals of the season to take the outright team lead in goals on the season for CU.
It wasn't all offense for the Lady Tigers despite outshooting Life 23-10, goalkeeper
Katelyn Young was test throughout as the junior made six saves but did allow a late goal from LU's Leah McDaid in the 86
th minute.
Campbellsville women's soccer will make a return home for a game next Wednesday against Thomas More University in their first game against the Saints since TMU joined the Mid-South Conference this season.
