CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A game-tying goal in the 59
th minute gave the Campbellsville University women's soccer team some momentum but the Lady Tigers were never able to break the tie as Thomas More University took a 2-1 win in double-overtime.
CU's goal came off of the foot of junior
Sarah Johnston for the first goal of her career on a cross from
Lakin Walls as the Lady Tigers were breaking on a counter attack. Johnston had been moved to midfield after spending most of her two and half seasons at CU defense as she was able to cash in for the first time as a Lady Tiger.
The Saints earned their lead on a first half penalty kick after a foul in the box on a long free kick that was sent towards goal. Ryann Meddings stepped to the ball for TMU and was able to finish the goal off inside the left post for her first goal of her career.
It was Meddings again in the second overtime as a free kick was awarded to the Saints with three minutes left on the clock. Meddings stepped to the ball again and curled a ball high on the right side of the goal to end the game with the golden goal.
TMU had more of the opportunities overall in the game, taking 16 shots to just 11 for the Lady Tigers. Corner kicks (2-2) and fouls (13-13) were even in the game but the deciding foul was called for the game-winning free kick.
CU will hit the road this Saturday for their final road game of the season when they face Georgetown College for a 5 p.m. ET start time.
