Lady Tigers open conference play with 7-0 feat over Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Tigers picked up their eighth straight win and first inside the Mid-South Conference with a 7-0 victory over the University of Pikeville.
 
Once again, Campbellsville, who rank in the top 10 in shots per game and shots allowed per game, shined on both sides of the ball, outshooting the Bears 30-2. 
 
The Lady Tiger attack began quickly as the offense was able to put up five shots in the first ten minutes, but was unable to see one hit the back of the net.
 
Nonetheless, on their 10thshot of the match, Hope Sanders was finally able to get Campbellsville on the board off of a dish from Lakin Walls.
 
Fourteen minutes later, Walls was able to extend the Lady Tiger lead as she picked up her third goal this season.
 
This two goal lead held throughout the remainder of the first half as the Pikeville keeper, Elizabeth Lukens, was able to record three saves over the final eight minutes.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, the Lady Tigers began to make the most of their attacks, scoring five second half goals over twelve shots.
 
Jessie Bryson got the second half scoring started, tallying the first two goals of the period for Campbellsville. Both of her goals came by way of assist from Rachel McWilliams.
 
In the 63rdminute, Rebecca Lilley joined in on the action as she recorded her second career goal for the Lady Tigers.
 
With Campbellsville up 5-0, the Lady Tiger offensive was slowed by four saves from the new Bear keeper, Erica Burkhardt.
 
However, the Lady Tigers were not done year, as they recorded goals in the 85thand 87thminute of the match. The 85thminute goal was set up by Lauryn Martin as Braxton Gentry extended the Campbellsville lead. Martin was then pick up her own goal, unassisted, bringing the score to 7-0.
 
This score held as the Lady Tigers were able to pick up their eighth consecutive victory.
 
As the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll was released prior to today's match, Campbellsville was able to pick up 69 votes, to sit in third in the receiving votes category.
 
The Lady Tigers will now return home on Saturday, Oct. 5th, for a 12 p.m. meeting with Shawnee State to open the three event day for CU athletics at Finley Stadium.
