Warman once again in contention at NCCAA Championship, Tigers are in second place

PALM COAST, Fla. — The 2019 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Men's Golf Championship got underway on Monday and Campbellsville University is sitting five strokes out of first place while senior Justin Warman is tied for first individually.

Warman fired an even-par 72 at Hammock Beach Resort's Conservatory Course and is in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard with Erskine College's Alberto Avila and Southwestern Christian's Leonardo Ruggieri.

After falling victim to a pair of bogeys in his first five holes, Warman rallied off three straight birdies to go out at one-under par, 35. On the back nine, Warman was steady with seven pars and a birdie on the par-three 12^th, but a double-bogey on the par-five 18^th pushed him back to even par for the round.

Jonathan Brewington had a solid round and is also in the Top 5 after shooting a 73. He's in a four-way tie for fourth after a round of four bogeys and three birdies.

Also, in the Top 10 for CU is Austin Mahoney. The junior shot a three-over 75 in his first round to be tied for 10^th.

Rounding out the Tigers in the Top 5 was Landon Conner's 80 and Layton Hord's 85.

As a team, Campbellsville (300) is five strokes behind Erskine College (295) and one stroke ahead of Grace College (301). The team leaderboard is bunched close together after that – Southwestern Christian (316) is three strokes behind Grace and Cedarville (307) is six strokes behind Grace.

The second round of the championship begins on Tuesday morning at Hammock Beach Resort.
