Warman shoots 68 to jump into first place, Tigers stay in second at NCCAA Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. — Senior Justin Warman fired a four-under 68 and leads the NCCAA National Championship Men's Golf Championship by two strokes. The Tigers as a team improved on their first-round score but continue to sit in second place.

Warman's first round yesterday ended in a double bogey but today that was the complete opposite. After bogeying the par-four second hole, he finished with a birdie on the par-five ninth to go out at even par. After rolling another birdie in on 11, Warman found his groove again with three straight birdies on 15-17 to shoot past his nearest opponent, Alberto Avila from Erskine College.

It's the second straight season Warman has been in the Top 5 going into the final day as he is looking for his first individual national title and the first in CU men's golf history.

The Tigers improved by two strokes on their team score from Monday, but Erskine College improved seven strokes and now lead the tournament by 15 over Campbellsville.

Jonathan Brewington has been playing solid lately and followed his 73 from Monday up with a two-over 74 on Tuesday to be tied for fourth place.

Austin Mahoney fell off the pace a little by firing a 79 on Tuesday to drop to 18th. Layton Hord improved by eight strokes jumping up the leaderboard to 30th with a 77 but Landon Conner fell off the pace with a second round 84 falling to 34th

Behind Campbellsville is Southwestern Christian by six strokes. Southwestern shot 304-300 the first two days and jumped Grace College in the team standings as the Lancers shot 301-305 to sit in fourth place.

Warman and the Tigers tee off on Wednesday in the final round of the championship at 9 a.m. ET with Conner teeing off first. Warman starts his quest for a national title at 9:40 at Hammock Beach Resort's Conservatory Course.
