Warman wins first NCCAA Men's Golf Championship in program history

PALM COAST, Fla. — For the first time in Campbellsville University history, a men's golfer has won a national championship. Justin Warman birdied his final two holes to hold on late winning the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship at Hammock Beach Resort's Conservatory Course.

Warman, a senior from Georgetown, Ky., entered the final day with a four-stroke lead over Alberto Avila from Erskine College and struggled out of the gates to make things interesting. After carding bogeys on holes No. 4, 6, and 7, Warman got on track with his first birdie of the day at the par-three eighth.

On the back nine, Warman held a two-stroke lead and had a pair of birdies and bogeys to start his first four holes. Then when it mattered the most, the senior finished Nos. 17 and 18 with birdies to claim the title.

He won by three strokes over Erskine's Zach McLain who fired a low-round 68 on Wednesday. Emiel Van Geet from Southwestern Christian University finished in third, while Avila dropped to fourth after his four-over 76 in the third round.

The tournament win for Warman is his fifth in his career and the first individual national championship in program history. He finished with scores of 72, 68, and 72. It's also the 26th individual NCCAA Championship in school history for Campbellsville University.

As a team, the Tigers finished in second place with a three-day total of 903. Erskine College was 18 strokes better to claim the title championship.

Jonathan Brewington finished tied for fifth and joined Warman as an NCCAA All-American. He had rounds of 73, 74 and 77 to card a 224 in the three days.

Austin Mahoney finished tied for 20th after an 81 on Day 3, while Layton Hord matched his 77 from the second round to finish in 26th. Landon Conner rounded out the Tigers with a 79 on Wednesday to finish tied for 32nd

Campbellsville finishes the fall schedule with an impressive resume. CU won the Lindsey Wilson Fall Kickoff, NCCAA Mid-East Regional, Georgetown College Invite and finished third at the MSC Fall Championship.

The Tigers will get their spring started in February.
