Lady Tiger basketball ready to get back on the road for pair of games in Pikeville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's basketball team will continue through classic play over the next few weeks starting with another Friday, Saturday set in Pikeville, Ky. to face off against Simmons College of Kentucky and Marian University.

CU will face off against Simmons on Friday at 2 p.m. ET at the UPike Gym with Saturday's tip against Marian coming with an early 10 a.m. ET scheduled time.

Both games audio broadcast will air on the CU Sports Network with Saturday morning's game to be broadcast locally in Campbellsville on 88.7 The Tiger as Brett Tudela will be on the call for both games.

The Lady Tiger basketball team won back-to-back games for the second-straight week to move to 4-0 after wins over No. 16 Bethel University and Martin Methodist College at the MSC/SSAC Challenge in Pulaski, Tenn. last Friday and Saturday.

Friday's game against Bethel was a defensive slugfest with Campbellsville coming out on top 54-41 to earn their first win over a ranked opponent on the 2019-20 season. A huge second half propelled the Lady Tigers to a 91-59 win over Martin Methodist for the program's 1,000th win in their 45-year history.

SERIES FACTS VS. SIMMONS
  • The Lady Tigers and Falcons have played each other twice over the last two seasons with Campbellsville taking both games played at the Powell Athletic Center.
  • Both margins of victory neared the 100-point mark with Campbellsville owning a 127-33 win last season on Dec. 10 and a 125-39 win two seasons prior on Nov. 28.
  • In last season's game, no CU player scored more than 15 points but eight different Lady Tigers scored in double figures led by Madison Kaiser's 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting.
  • Two seasons ago saw a similar box score for the Lady Tigers with seven CU players in double figures led by Savannah Gregory's 15 points and six rebounds, which also tied for the team lead in the game.

SERIES FACTS VS. MARIAN
  • The Lady Tigers and Knights have faced off only twice in the history of the two programs CU earning double-digit wins in each game.
  • The most recent matchup came last season when these two teams met in the exact same tournament almost a year ago on Dec. 18 where Campbellsville earned a 100-66 win at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
  • In last season's win, Madison Faulkner led all returners on the current 2019-20 team with 14 points as seniors Madison Kaiser, Madison Stewart, and Jordan Doram combined for 41 points. Savannah Gregory finished with 11 points and Caitlin Hall put up seven points with 11 assists.
  • That game marked the third time in four games that CU scored 100 or more points in a game and it would be their last 100-point output on the season.
  • The first meeting between Marian and Campbellsville came in 1980 as the Lady Tigers earned a road win in Indianapolis by a final score of 91-57.

1,000-WIN PLATEAU
  • In the 45th season in Lady Tiger basketball history, Campbellsville reached a milestone that had only been accomplished twice before in the history of NAIA women's basketball, win 1,000 games as a program.
  • The monumental win came in CU's 91-59 win over Martin Methodist College last Saturday in Pulaski, Tenn. as part of the MSC/SSAC Crossover Challenge.
  • Campbellsville joins Wayland Baptist and Union University (Tenn.) as the only other programs to reach the feat as Union is no longer part of the NAIA after moving to the NCAA Division II level.
  • The Lady Tigers have reached their 1,000 wins with only two head coaches in the program's history with the 661 from Donna Wise followed up by the 339 and counting from her former player and assistant Ginger High Colvin.

FREE THROW IMPROVEMENTS
  • CU got off to a bit of a shaky start from the free throw line to start their 2019-20 season as the Lady Tigers went a combined 23-for-45 (51.1%) from the charity stripe against Dillard and Brescia.
  • Since then, Campbellsville has only missed a total of seven free throws as they went on to combine to go 24-of-31 against Bethel and Martin Methodist last weekend in a pair of double-digit wins.
  • Combined with their own improved shooting from the free throw line, the Lady Tigers have also limited their opponents to shoot 11 free throws or less in every one of their games this season.
  • On average, CU shoots over 10 more free throws per game than their opponents through four games this season.

FAULKNER REACHING A MILESTONE
  • Campbellsville's senior forward Madison Faulkner is just 14 points away from joining a group of Lady Tigers in the record book as she has scored 986 total points in her career.
  • She would be the 37th player in LTB history to score 1,000 points and will have the ability to climb the all-time scoring list quickly throughout the 2019-20 season.
  • Last season, the Lady Tigers had two individuals reach that feat as both Madison Stewart and Jordan Doram joined the 1,000-point club during the 2018-19 season.

SCOUTING SIMMONS
  • The Falcons have only played two games up to this point in the season with both coming in a defeat on the road.
  • Simmons faced Midway University to start their season as they fell to the Eagles 107-43 on Nov. 6.
  • They followed that game up with a trip to New Albany, Ind. as they fell to the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast 85-51.
  • Guard Alexis Smith comes into the weekend as the leading scorer for the Falcons, averaging 23.5 points per game after scoring 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds IU-Southeast.
  • Simmons has a tandem of Smith and Precious Hereford that have been playing well despite the poor results on the season as Hereford scored 13 with 14 rebounds against the Grenadiers while also scoring 20 points against Midway.

SCOUTING MARIAN
  • The Knights will enter the weekend at a record of 5-0 but will face University of Pikeville on Friday before suiting up to take on the Lady Tigers.
  • Marian has earned wins over Culver-Stockton, Saint Ambrose University, St. Francis, Cardinal Stritch University, and Indiana University East through the first three weeks of their season.
  • MU has averaged 77.4 points per game on 47.1 percent shooting from the field with an average margin of +28.2 to prove to be a tough test for the Lady Tigers here in the early going.
  • Defensively they hold opponents to 27.8 percent shooting from the field as well as outrebounding their opponents by over eight rebounds per game.
  • The Knights also play well with the ball averaging only 14.4 turnovers per game with a +5.2 turnover margin through five games.

TIGER CLAWZ
  • Campbellsville's offense has been a heavy dose of Madison Faulkner inside the paint, Lexy Lake outside the three-point line and Savannah Gregory with a bit of a combination of both as the three are all averaging double figures through four games this season.
  • Caitlin Hall has been up to her usually passing ways, leading the team with 6.8 assists per game but has also upped her scoring output to start this season.
  • Hall is the fourth-leading score for CU so far with 8.3 points per game and is leading the team in three-point shooting percentage at 64.3 percent early on to prove to me more than just a passer.
  • CU is still looking for some consistent scoring off the bench with Madison Sheppard (5.3) and Ashlee McGeorge (4.5) leading the way so far in bench points per game.

UP NEXT FOR CU
  • Campbellsville will continue with two-game classics when they head to Lebanon, Tenn. for their second meeting against Brescia University this season on Nov. 22 followed by a meeting with Voorhees College on Nov. 23 at the Cumberland University Classic.
