BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Looking for back-to-back wins over Cumberland University, the Campbellsville University women's soccer team fell in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead behind a seventh minute goal from
Molly Hall after a cross from
Lakin Walls. The goal was Hall's 10
th of the season to tie for the team lead in that category.
Unlike the 1-0 win for Campbellsville last Saturday at Finley Stadium, the Phoenix would not be kept off the scoreboard as they scored about 13 minutes later after three-straight corner kicks. After the third corner from Marie Bathe, Danisha Brown was able to finish it off and put the ball into the net and tie the score at 1-1.
The game would remain tied heading into halftime despite an 8-5 shot advantage for the Lady Tigers and the 3-1 corner kick advantage for the Phoenix. Cumberland came out of the halftime break with a little momentum though, not allowing Campbellsville to fire a shot for about 25 minutes of the second half.
In the 69
th minute, the Phoenix were able to break through as Carla Hager was able to slide a ball past Lady Tiger goalkeeper
Katelyn Young to break the tie and give Cumberland the 2-1 lead that they eventually won by.
With MSC tournament play over for Campbellsville, the Lady Tigers will now wait to see if they qualify for an at-large selection in the NAIA Tournament. If Campbellsville is not selected, they will prepare for the NCCAA National Tournament starting with Mid-East Regional competition.
