Tigers win Pool B with 6-0 win over Judson to march into NCCAA semifinal

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Tigers were all business today as they handily controlled their match defeating Judson University, 6-0.

Coming out of the gates firing, Campbellsville put the pressure on the Eagles early, as with three shots in the first 11 minutes of play. The third of which, forced a crucial mistake from the Eagle keeper, Brandon Gorka.

As Connor Pugh had a 1-on-1 with the Gorka, he looked to make a move around the keeper to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Gorka had crept out of the box and as Pugh made his move, Gorka instinctually stuck out his hand to stop the goal, warranting a red card.

Now playing a man up and with Judson playing their backup keeper, the Tiger offense exploded. Connor Pugh got the scoring started on an assist from Azad Iliozer. On the play, Tom Edge sent a beautiful up field cross, played at the feet of Iliozer before he was then able to find Pugh for an easy score.

Through the next 20 minutes of physical play, CU put up five shots, but with no luck. However, in the 38thminute, Iliozer was able to deliver off a ball from Gustav Oskarsson to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Two minutes later, Oskarsson was able to tally a goal of his own. Only five minutes after Eleder Goikoetxea entered play, he was breaking loose on a play and was able to fire a cross as Oskarsson jumped in for a header. This gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Out of the break, Tom Edge sent another ball up field that was played perfectly to a breaking Iliozer. Once again, Iliozer was able to settle it, but this time, he found the back of the net himself, giving Campbellsville a four-goal lead.

Kalvin Semedo was the impact player for the last two Tiger goals. The first happened only seconds after reentering game as Semedo had control of the ball, but forced a foul in the box, giving the Tigers a penalty kick. Gustavo Izzo took the kick to score the Tiger goal.

Semedo scored the final goal of the night for the Tigers after single handedly sprinting past the Judson defenders before firing his shot over the Eagle goalie.

The Tigers defense only allowed eight shots and Owen Stott was able to record three saves on those shots.

CU earned their second shutout of the NCCAA Tournament to win Pool B and advance to the NCCAA Semifinal on Friday.

With a goal differential of +7, the Tigers will earn either the Nos. 1 or 2 seed in the tournament, depending on the result of the Ottawa University Arizona and Grace College Pool C match.
