Coach Ginger High Colvin picks up fifth Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year honor

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — For the fifth time in her career, Campbellsville's Ginger High Colvin has been named the Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year.

High Colvin led the Lady Tigers to a perfect 14-0 record in Mid-South Conference play this season and Campbellsville finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, including a pair of first-place votes, with a 28-2 record.

In her tenure as head coach, Coach High Colvin has accumulated a 330-81 record. She has achieved three 30-win seasons and has been to the NAIA National Tournament in all but her first season.

The top-seeded Lady Tigers open the MSC Tournament on Friday morning at 10 a.m. against No. 8-seed University of the Cumberlands.

"
I am blessed to work with many great coaches but some coaches are gifted in finding ways to get every ounce of potential out of their athletes and then get them to play outside of themselves. Ginger (High Colvin) is that coach," said director of athletics Jim Hardy. "Her teams always play extremely hard and selflessly. This year is no exception. Ginger has been able to guide this team to excellence. Finishing the season undefeated against conference opponents is remarkable. She truly deserves this honor and it is a blessing for me to have her Miranda Denney and Lindsey Burd as part of our athletic family."

Overall on the year, the Lady Tigers are ranked in the NAIA Top 10 in 11 statistical categories, including No. 1 in assists (626), second in points per game (87.2), second in turnover margin (9.8), second in steals (464), third in scoring margin (26.0), and third in steals per game (15.4).

26011A pair of Lady Tigers surpassed 1,000-career point this season – Jordan Doram and Madison Stewart. Stewart was named First-Team All-MSC along with Savannah Gregory, Caitlin Hall and Madison Faulkner. Doram was a Second-Team performer this year. In addition, Gregory was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

Though she has worn the title of head coach for only 11 seasons, High Colvin has been a part of the Lady Tiger family for more than two decades.

High Colvin has led Campbellsville to a pair of NAIA Fab Four appearances, most recently in 2016-17 when the Lady Tigers pulled two upsets in the NAIA Tournament - 73-56 over two-seed Baker University in the second round and 73-70 over No. 1-overall seed Freed-Hardeman. CU fell to eventual national champion Oklahoma City in the semifinal, 87-78. The National Tournament appearance was also the 25th in program history - breaking the NAIA record.

In 2014-15, High Colvin led the Lady Tigers to their most successful season in their storied history. Campbellsville women's basketball competed in the schools first-ever NAIA National Championship game. Although, the Lady Tigers fell to Oklahoma City in the championship game, Campbellsville finished the season ranked No. 2 (tying its highest ranking in history), tied the most wins in a season (33) and also won its 18th overall conference regular season title (13 MSC, 5 KIAC). CU was also a perfect, 13-0 at home throughout the regular season for the first time in High Colvin's era.

In 2016-17, the Lady Tigers made another MSC Tournament title run before falling the in the championship game. High Colvin's Lady Tigers reached the NAIA Quarterfinals before falling to Benedictine (Kan.).

In 2013-14, the Lady Tigers won both the MSC regular season and tournament crowns. The team reached the quarterfinals of the national tournament and finished the year ranked No. 5.

In 2012-13, the Lady Tigers finished runner-up in the Mid-South Conference Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the NAIA National Tournament. They finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation.

The 2010-2011 season proved to be monumental as well. For the first time in High Colvin's tenure, the Lady Tigers won the Mid-South Conference Tournament championship. They were champions of both the MSC Tournament and regular season for the first time in seven years. Another 30-win season ended in a seventh trip to the NAIA National Tournament Elite Eight. The Lady Tigers finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation, the highest ranking till 2014-15.

In 2009-2010, the Lady Tigers became the first team in the history of the Mid-South Conference to go undefeated in conference play. Additionally, the Lady Tigers were named the NAIA National Team Champion of Character. To top it all off, High Colvin was named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year for the second year in a row and was a finalist to be named WBCA National Coach of the Year.

Her Campbellsville University experience began in 1986 on the hardwood as a student-athlete under then-head coach, Donna Wise. In her playing career, High Colvin was a star performer. In 1990, she was named a Third-Team All-American and the KIAC Player of the Year. She is one of four Lady Tigers to be named as an All-Conference selection for four consecutive seasons. She is also a member of the 1,000-point club at Campbellsville University and a member of the Campbellsville University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Impressively, High Colvin still holds the NAIA national record for highest assist average in a career. She also ranks first in CU Lady Tiger basketball history for assists in a game, season and career.

Upon completion of her playing career, High Colvin's love for Campbellsville University and passion for the game prompted her to begin her coaching career as an assistant coach under Wise. High Colvin served as a part-time assistant for 12 years, from 1991-2003.

In 1997, High Colvin was called upon to take over the reigns of a struggling Campbellsville High School Lady Eagle program. Coach's impact on that program was both quick and remarkable. In seven seasons, her teams achieved a winning record five times. High Colvin guided her Lady Eagle teams to three 20-win seasons and three 5th Region All-A Championships. One of those All-A Regional Championship teams advanced to the Elite 8 of the Class A State Tournament. She also led Campbellsville to two 20th District Titles (the first district titles in school history in women's basketball). High Colvin's ultimate achievement at the high school ranks came in 2001 and 2002 when she guided her Lady Eagle squads to the championship game of the 5th Region tournament.

In 2003, High Colvin returned to Campbellsville University as a full-time assistant. Four seasons later, when Wise announced her retirement, High Colvin was the logical choice to fill her shoes. She is only the second head coach in program history.
