OWENSBORO, Ky. — A couple solo home runs sparked No. 11 Lady Tiger softball in a doubleheader sweep over Brescia University under the lights on Tuesday night.

The Lady Tigers (12-3) won 2-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two on a frigid Tuesday evening at Kamuf Park.

Riley Hurst and Hannah Judd both delivered solo home runs. Hurst picked up the first round tripper of her career to lead off the fifth inning of game one, while Judd answered with one out in the second inning of game two.

Aleigha Talsma (6-1) picked up the win in game one but didn't have her best stuff. The freshman battled out of multiple jams, including a bases loaded no-out scuffle for Brescia (4-8) to earn the shut out.

Morgan Gailor (4-2) twirled a gem in game two, matching her career-high with eight strikeouts for the third time this season.

Game one – Campbellsville 2, Brescia 0

CU was out-hit in game one, 7-5, by the Bearcats but Hurst sparked the CU offense with a 2-for-3 performance. After giving CU a 1-0 lead in the fifth with a liner over the right-center field fence, the Lady Tigers added an insurance run in the last frame.

Talsma, who was hitting for herself in the five-hole, led off the inning with a double to left-center, moved to third base on an infield single by Judd, and later scored on a Tori Humphrey sac fly.

Talsma had to work her tail off tonight. The Bearcats had the leadoff batter of each inning on base in the first five frames. Brescia even had a runner on third base with less than two outs three separate times but Taslma had the Bearcats guessing at the plate to end rallies.

The biggest rally was in the fourth inning. After two straight singles and walk, Talsma worked three straight pop ups in the infield to get out of the jam.

Game two – Campbellsville 5, Brescia 1

Gailor started the second game with a four-strikeout inning in the first frame. She struck out the first, allowed a base runner to reach on a dropped third strike, and then sat down the third and fourth batters with Ks.

Judd put CU ahead 1-0 after a one-out homer deep over the left field fence. The Lady Tigers had a chance in the third to extend that lead after a leadoff single by Dana Adkins and sac bunt by Payton Blades, but CU couldn't scratch a run.

The Bearcats were able to capitalize in the third – which was the only inning Brescia had the leadoff batter on base. A single, couple fielder's choices, and a infield single scored the long Bearcat run.

Now tied 1-1, Gailor sat down the final 13 batters in order.

The CU offense took advantage of a two-out rally in the fourth. Judd singled to left, Humphrey walked and Ryleigh Oldham doubled to right-center field to score both.

CU picked up insurances runs in the seventh and it all started with a pinch-hit single by Brandi Garmon for the second time in two weeks. Garmon singled up the middle and was followed with a pinch-hit single by Talsma but an error by Brescia allowed Judd to score and move Talsma to third base.

Dakota Young, also pinch hitting, delivered a sac fly to left to score the final CU insurance run.

Up Next:
Campbellsville had to cancel both games at Union College on Thursday due to a scheduling conflict with Union's conference slate and forcasted weather later this week.

CU is now playing the waiting game again and will host Cumberland University in 10 days on Friday, March 22 at Veterans Memorial Park. The conference doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. ET on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
