Aldridge's homer, Garmon's pinch-hit and Talsma's strong pitching lead CU to 4-0 win

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Mia Aldridge delivered a leadoff home run in the sixth and Brandi Garmon sparked a three-run seventh inning to lead Campbellsville to a 4-0 win over Houston Victoria on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers now improve to 9-2 on the year with the win and will play Culver Stockton at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Fans can tune into the CU Sports Network for coverage.

Aleigha Talsma started in the circle and picked up her fifth win of the year after tossing a complete-game seven-hitter. She struck out five through 97 pitches.

Lexi Miller and Hannah Judd both went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Aldridge and Garmon had the other two hits.

The scoring started in the sixth with the leadoff shot by Aldridge – her first of the year. CU had a chance to add insurance runs in the same inning after a single by Miller and walk by Riley Hurst but CU couldn't muster the timely hit.

The timely insurance runs came up big in the seventh, though. With one out, Garmon pinch hit for Ryleigh Oldham and delivered a single up the middle. She was followed with a two-out hit-by-pitch and both runners moved to second and third on a ball in the dirt. That setup a two-run ground ball off the bat of Riley Whitney. Her hard grounded ricocheted off the glove of the third basemen and allowed two runs to score.

Miller followed with an RBI single to score another run to give CU a 4-0 lead.

Talsma needed all four runs as the game-tying run came to the plate for the Jaguars in the seventh. Three straight singles by Houston Victoria had the Lady Tigers a little uneasy but Talsma worked a pop up and fielder's choice to end the Jaguar threat.

Campbellsville will now play its fourth game in two days at 5:30 p.m. ET against Culver Stockton at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
