Eight-run third inning for Shawnee State spoils Lady Tiger doubleheader sweep on Monday

GREENUP, Ky. — An eight-run third inning in game two spoiled Campbellsville's doubleheader sweep of Shawnee State and the Lady Tigers split with the Bears on Monday afternoon.

The 13th-ranked Lady Tigers won 11-0 in six innings in game one and lost 12-10 in game two.

It was a slugfest all of over the yard as Campbellsville (19-4) hit nine home runs in the two games, but it wasn't enough in game two as CU dug itself a hole in the finale.

Tori Humphrey and Mia Aldridge both hit three home runs. Humphrey hit one in game on and two in the same inning of game two. Mia Aldridge delivered two in the opening game and one in the finale.

Humphrey finished the doubleheader with 10 RBI pushing her total to 26 on the season - which is tied with Riley Hurst for the team-high. Aldridge finished with four RBI.

Morgan Gailor (8-2) tossed a gem in game one to tally her seventh complete game of the year and fourth shutout. She went six innings, allowed five hits and struck out five. She also saw action in game two, tossing the final three innings and allowed one earned run and striking out four.

Karson Williams (3-1) started game two and lasted into the third inning as the Bears scored eight of the 10 runs in the first three innings of the sophomore southpaw. Payton Blades also saw action, tossing 1/3 inning and allowed two runs.

Game one: Campbellsville 11, Shawnee State 0

Blades started the game with a walk and Aldridge put the Lady Tigers ahead 2-0 with a blast to left field. Humphrey followed with an RBI single at the base of the way to put CU ahead 3-0 after a half inning of play.

CU didn't score again until the fifth inning but tallied three more solo home runs and led 6-0. Riley Hurst pelted a leadoff homer, Humphrey delivered a one-out shot, and Ryleigh Oldham followed to go back-to-back.

In the sixth, CU scored five more. Aldridge led off with a solo shot, Hurst delivered an RBI double, Hannah Judd picked up an RBI single and Humphrey drove in two more with a single to center.

Gailor had to work out of jams two separate times. In the second inning, the Bears had runners on first and second but Gailor picked up a 5-3 double play. She picked up her third strikeout to end that frame.

In the fourth, a pair of singles and an error loaded the bases, but a strikeout and a second double play ended the rally for Shawnee State.

Another hit and error allowed the Bears to put two runs on in the sixth, but Ryleigh Oldham, Mia Aldridge and Ryley Whitney completed a tandem relay to end the game.

Game two: Shawnee State 12, Campbellsville 10

Paige Oldham tossed a complete game 14-hitter for the Bears and kept her perfect record (7-0) alive. She surrendered 10 earned runs but the Lady Tigers couldn't come back from an eight-run third inning that saw 11 batters come to the plate.

Oldham helped herself out with a run-scoring double to start the rally and it was capped by an RBI single by Faith Brown in the four-hole.

Williams lasted eight batters into the inning and the Bears led 6-0. Blades went from CF to DP to the circle and Shawnee State kept the pedal to the floor. Blades allowed a pair of run scoring singles and an RBI double for Shawnee State to lead 10-0 after three innings.

Campbellsville answered in the fourth with a nine-spot. The Lady Tigers had home runs by Humphrey, Blades and then a second by Humphrey later in the inning. All of the runs came off the three long balls, as Humphrey's first of the inning was a two-run shot, Blades' was a three-run blast and Humphrey's second was a grand slam.

But that was all the Lady Tigers would get until two outs in the seventh when Aldridge pelted her third of the day. It was too little too late at that point for CU.
