Lady Tigers win a pair over KCU in under three hours to start Senior Weekend at Hord Field

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — It took a little under three hours for Lady Tiger softball to earn a pair of run-rule victories over Kentucky Christian University on Friday afternoon at Hord Field and Veterans Memorial Park.

The Lady Tigers earned a 13-2 victory in five innings of game one, and shutout the Knights in game two, 10-0.

The pitching was spot-on throughout the day as Morgan Gailor (11-3) and Karson Williams (4-1) both earned victories. Gailor tossed game one, allowing two earned runs through four innings and striking out four. Payton Blades tossed the final inning and struck out two.

Williams tossed a three-hitter and matched a career-high four strikeouts with 69 total pitches through five innings.

Riley Hurst and Blades both delivered home runs in the wins. Blades pelted her seventh homer in her second at-bat of the first inning of game one – her first-career grand slam. Hurst delivered her eighth home run – also a 3-run shot – in the first inning of game two.

Game one: Campbellsville 13, Kentucky Christian 2

The Knights took an early 1-0 lead after a single by Marshall University transfer Summer Collins came around to score after a sacrifice bunt and RBI hit by Jade Spurlock.

The Lady Tigers answered in the home-half of the first, though, and chased starter Lora Thompson out of the game after one inning. Thompson walked four batters in the inning, including walking-in three runs, and fell victim to an RBI hit by Ryleigh Oldham and the three-run blast by Blades.

Blades finished with a double and home run in the first inning to extend her hit-streak to 12 games.

KCU got a run back in the third but the Lady Tigers punched across three more in the bottom half. Blades drove in two runs, while Ryley Whitney followed with an RBI hit up the middle.

In the fourth, Oldham picked up an RBI single and pinch-hitter Brandi Garmon delivered an RBI ground out to score the 13thrun for CU.

Blades was 3-for-4 with six RBI in game one to lead Campbellsville.

Game two: Campbellsville 10, Kentucky Christian 0

Williams earned two of her four strikeouts in the first inning and the Lady Tigers broke through with another seven-spot against KCU's Thompson in the circle.

Mia Aldridge picked up an RBI single and was followed with the blast by Hurst to put CU ahead, 4-0. With two outs, Campbellsville scored a pair of unearned runs and took advantage of a wild pitch to score three more and lead 7-0.

In the third, Whitney drove in Blades with an RBI double and Miller followed suit to drive in Hurst and Whitney with a two-run double putting CU ahead, 10-0.

Williams sat the Knights down 1-2-3 in the third, worked around two KCU hits in the fourth and was perfect in the fifth to earn the win.
