Gailor tosses a gem on Senior Day; Lady Tigers complete sweep over KCU

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Senior Weekend ended with a clean sweep over Mid-South Conference foe Kentucky Christian University. The 14th-ranked Lady Tigers won 9-0 in game three of the series and 14-6 in game four.

Morgan Gailor (12-3) tossed a complete-game one-hitter to earn her fourth shutout of the season. In game two, Karson Williams Anna Wantz and Payton Blades combined for the victory in the circle.

The long ball was once again a key factor in the victories. Averaging 1.6 home runs per game, the Lady Tigers pelted three homers in game one and two in game two. Payton Blades and Ryley Whitney both hit a pair of home runs to push their totals to nine on the season, while Hannah Judd had an opposite field solo shot in game one.

The wins improve the Lady Tigers to 27-6 overall and now 13-3 in Mid-South Conference play. CU is still in second play in the MSC behind Lindsey Wilson's 15-1 slate.

Game one: Campbellsville 9, KCU 0

Gailor allowed only one hit in the first game – a single in the fourth inning – but center fielder Payton Blades threw out Katerina Anthony trying to stretch the single to a double. Gailor finished by facing the minimum of 15 batters through five innings. She also struck out for batters in the win.

The Lady Tigers led 3-0 after the first inning. It was a leadoff double by Blades, walk by Mia Aldridge and RBI singles by Tori Humphrey and Riley Hurst. Lexi Miller had an RBI ground ball to put CU ahead, 3-0.

CU scratched two more in the third. One-out singles by Whitney and Hurst led to another run-scoring single by Humphrey and sac fly by Miller.

Leading now 5-0, Judd led off the fourth inning with an opposite field homer to right field and that started the first of three long balls in the inning. Blades hit a two-run shot and Whitney delivered another solo shot for the nine runs.

Game two: Campbellsville 14, Kentucky Christian

The offense tallied 14 hits in game two and took advantage of 11 walks in the circle by Kentucky Christian's Lora Thompson.

The Knights did take a 1-0 lead in the first off Williams (5-1) but the lead didn't last long. CU scratched two runs in the second – a two-run blast by Whitney.

In the second inning, it was an eight-run inning that saw 13 batters come to the plate. Ryleigh Oldham had a two-run single, Blades hit a two-run homer and Judd scored two with a double to right field. The other runs came off bases loaded walks.

Williams got into trouble in the third inning and gave way to Wantz. But the Knights scored four runs before the Lady Tigers picked up an out.

CU answered with a four-spot in the home-half. Hurst scored two with a single up the middle, Miller scored Keisha Curry with an RBI hit and Dana Adkins walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI.
