Lady Tiger offense cools off in doubleheader split with rival Georgetown College

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — A pair of 2-1 games were split on Tuesday afternoon as No. 14 Campbellsville won game one 2-1 but Georgetown pulled out an extra-inning 2-1 win in game two.

The Lady Tigers came in averaging over seven runs a game, but Georgetown's staff allowed a combined three through the 15 innings. CU scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning of game one off an RBI single by Tori Humphrey and sacrifice fly by Lexi Miller. In game one, it was a solo home run by Riley Hurst in the fourth.

That was all the offense CU could muster throughout the day off Hannah Morton (11-8) and Audrey Dodd (11-8).

Morgan Gailor (14-3) battled through game one to pick up the win for CU tossing another complete-game eight-hitter. The lone run came in the fifth inning with two outs on an RBI single by Kristen Klimesh.

Payton Blades (1-1) started in the circle for the first time in her career and outside of a few pitches was spectacular. The freshman from Island, Ky. went 7.1 innings, allowed only six hits and two runs – one earned – while striking out three. The lone walk of the day for CU pitching staff ended up coming around to score the game-winner in the eighth for Georgetown.

Game one: Campbellsville 2, Georgetown 1

The Lady Tigers struck first in the fourth inning. Ryley Whitney walked to lead off the frame and was lifted for a pinch-runner, Ivy Hedgespeth. Hurst then hit a hard grounder to shortstop but an error by Georgetown allowed CU to have runners on first and second with no outs. Humphrey then delivered the RBI single up the middle to put CU ahead 1-0.

Miller followed with a sac fly to left field to give CU a 2-0 lead.

In a game that CU stranded seven base runners, the Lady Tigers had a runner on third base with less than two outs in the first inning but couldn't score Blades after a leadoff single and sac bunt by Mia Aldridge

Georgetown threatened in the bottom of the first, but Blades threw out Allie Watson trying to score from second base on a base hit from centerfield.

Georgetown was able to answer with a run in the fifth inning and cut the lead to one, 2-1. It was a leadoff single by Hannah Howes and sac bunt by Corrin Robinson flipping the lineup back to the top. That's when Klimesh delivered the RBI hit to right field score Howes.

In the sixth and seventh, Gailor sat down Georgetown 1-2-3 to pick up the win.

Game two: Georgetown 2, Campbellsville 1

The offense slowed until the fourth inning solo shot by Hurst – which was the ninth of the season.

In the bottom of the fourth, Blades sat the Georgetown Tiger down 1-2-3 for the first time and worked out of a jam in the sixth. After a leadoff hit-by-pitch, Mallory Myers singled to left to put runners on first and second but CU got out unscathed.

In the eighth, Blades tried to help herself with a one-out double but Mia Aldridge flew out and Ryley Whitney grounded out.

Corrin Robinson led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and after a fielder's choice and error, Georgetown moved the runners to second and third with one out. That setup the RBI hit by Klimesh up the middle to score Allie Watson.
