Tigers’ offense explodes late for 12-2 win over Lindsey Wilson in Thursday series opener

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Campbellsville baseball got back to Mid-South Conference play on Thursday afternoon against Lindsey Wilson College as the Tigers pushed their conference winning streak to four with a 12-2 win.

CU steadily built a lead over the first four innings, getting one run in each of the first three then a pair of runs in the fourth to go up 5-0. In the first, back-to-back singles from Tyler Deason and Bryson Wallet helped score Adbiel Morales, who walked to lead off the inning.

Another leadoff hitter reached for the Tigers in the second as Tommy Sepulveda was hit by a pitch and Cale Thompson drove him home with a two-out single to right-center. Campbellsville loaded the bases with no outs in the third and were able to push a run across on a ground ball double play but that helped the Blue Raiders avoid a bigger inning.

The long ball came to play in the fourth inning as Morales launched a two-run shot to left as the Tigers jumped out to that 5-0 lead. LWC answered in the next half inning with a two-run home run of their own as Seth Price also went deep to left to cut the lead to 5-2.

That home run was the only blemish against CU starter Anthony Arias, who picked up the win by going 5.2 innings allowing those two earned runs on only two hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

Arias was relieved by Jesse Davis out of the bullpen in the sixth to keep the score at 5-2 as he entered with two outs and runners on first and second. He was able to close out the seventh as well to pick up the rare save in a 10-run victory.

The Tigers got the seven runs in the seventh to get to a 12-2 lead with the RBIs coming from Tony Fonzo, Sepulveda, Donnel Bailey and Morales.

Campbellsville will have a significant break between games in this series with it being scheduled to continue on Monday with the doubleheader finale in Columbia, Ky. due to the rain in the area over the weekend.
