Lady Tigers hit eight solo home runs but No. 5 Lindsey Wilson wins doubleheader

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — No. 5 Lindsey Wilson scored a combined nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings during Saturdays doubleheader to sweep No. 15 Lady Tiger softball.

The Blue Raiders (42-2, 21-1 MSC) claim the regular season championship with the two wins over the Lady Tigers (30-11, 16-8 MSC). Both will be the Nos. 1-2 seeds in the upcoming tournament.

Today though it was a home run fest. In game one it was the Lady Tigers hitting three, while game two saw a combined seven long balls. The difference in the run column was of CU's seven total home runs in the doubleheader, all of them were solo shots. Lindsey Wilson's Callum Pilgrim pelted a grand slam in game two and Kalli Harris hit a three-run blast in the final inning of the second game to account for seven of the 10 runs.

Mia Aldridge celebrated her birthday with three home runs in the two games. She now has nine on the season. Ryleigh Oldham, Hannah Judd, Riley Hurst, Lexi Miller and Payton Blades all had solo home runs as well.

In the circle, it was Annabelle Ramirez coming in relief for game one to pick up her 13thwin of the season but the Lady Tigers chased Ramirez out of game two after only five innings. Ramirez allowed a career-high seven runs but gave way to Abby Whelan (6-1) in the sixth and seventh for the win. Hannah Epperson started in game one and lasted into the fourth inning, while Taylor Slade also pitched two innings in the opener.

Morgan Gailor (15-6) matched her career-high with eight strikeouts again but the senior allowed four runs in the eighth inning of game one. She finished allowing nine hits and walked five.

In game two, Payton Blades was really good for four of the six innings. After allowing five runs in the first two innings – four of those off Pilgrim's grand slam – Blades was lights out. She sat down 8-of-9 batters at one point and the offense gave her a 7-5 lead into the seventh.

Gailor entered the circle seeking her third save of the year but Lindsey Wilson rallied with five runs to hand the second loss of the day to Gailor. Blades finished tossing six innings and allowed five runs off five hits while striking out three.

In game two, the offense scored two runs in the first and then had single runs in every inning but the seventh. CU also out-hit one of the best offensive teams in the country (10-9).

With the losses, the Lady Tigers head into the Mid-South Conference Tournament on its second two-game losing skid of the season and second in the last week. MSC officials will announce the bracket and game times on Sunday, April 28.
