Tiger tennis begins NCCAA Pool Play with 5-3 defeat against Ottawa University Arizona

MOBILE, Ala. – The defending NCCAA National Champion Campbellsville men's tennis team dropped their opening dual in the 2019 tournament with a loss to the No. 2 seeded Spirit of Ottawa University Arizona.

Ottawa started the match off on top 3-0 after sweeping doubles play, winning three tight matches 8-4, 8-5, and 8-6. The 8-6 match came from No. 3 doubles as the CU tandem of Adrian Sobrojo and Matus Sevcik tried to salvage a team point in doubles play but came up just short.

The Tigers finally got on the board in singles play with wins from Will True at No. 1, Sobrojo winning via a retirement at No. 3 and Sevcik winning in straight sets at No. 6 singles. It wasn't enough to mount a comeback however as the Spirit clinched a 5-3 win after winning at courts No. 2 and No. 4. Cesar Castro at No. 5 was the only court not to finish as he was up a game in the third set before Ottawa clinched their win.
