Tigers prep for home opener as No. 1 Central Methodist comes to Campbellsville Sunday night

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After getting their 2019 started with a 12-0 win over Boyce College on Thursday, the Campbellsville University men's soccer team will head into their home opener Sunday night against the No. 1 team in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, Central Methodist University.

Kickoff for Sunday night's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET as the action will be streamed on the CU Sports Network.

The Tigers and Eagles will match up as each are 1-0 after their first games of the season. Central Methodist earned a 1-0 victory over William Woods University on Aug. 21. The Eagles are the defending NAIA National Champions after a 22-2-2 2018 season as they entered 2019 as the top team in the coaches' poll, earning all 18 first place votes.

In CU's 12-0 win on Thursday, nine players recorded goals for the Tigers with senior Gustavo Izzo leading the way with a hat trick. Haylen West was the only other CU player with a multi-goal game as he put two in the back of the net and seven other Tigers scored a single goal in the game.

Campbellsville will also get back midfielder Tom Edge who had to serve a one-game suspension after receiving a red card in the Tigers' 2018 season finale at the NCCAA championships.

Following Sunday night's contest, CU will head back on the road next Saturday when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to face Saint Xavier University.
