CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On Wednesday the Tigers used a pair of goals in each half to take down the highly touted IWU Wildcats, improving to 4-1 on the year.
Heading into Wednesday night, the Tigers seemed to have a tough matchup on their hands as while Indiana Wesleyan was unranked in the preseason poll, they had beaten Lawrence Tech, who had been receiving votes, as well as tying the Olivet Nazarene (19
th) and Northwestern Ohio (RV) so far this season.
However, this did not deter the Tigers from jumping out to a quick lead and not looking back.
Campbellsville first got on the board in the 10
thminute as
Eleder Goikoetxea was able to capitalize on a dish from
Scott Brooksbank. Goikoetxea was then able to help the Tigers extend their lead as he set up
Tom Edge's goal in the 28
thminute, allowing the Tigers to enter the half leading, 2-0.
In the half, the Wildcats were able to put up six shots, but only two were on frame, resulting in saves from
Owen Stott.
Heading out of the break, the Tigers kept their foot on the gas as
Marc Lawrence used a pass from Connor Pugh to score his fourth goal of the season. Lawrence was able to take the shot from the top of the box to push the ball past, Aaron Carr, the Wildcat keeper.
Eight minutes later,
Kalvin Semedo, was able to get in on the action, giving Campbellsville the 4-0 lead they used to finish out the match.
Overall, the Tigers only outshot the Wildcats 16-15, but were able to put eight shots on goal, and four into the back of the net to improve 4-1 in 2019.
Campbellsville will return home on Saturday, September 21
st, for a 7 p.m. ET meeting against the Bethel Wildcats.
