Fighting Tigers look to bring their record back to .500 with road game at Southeastern

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville football will look to ride the momentum of a win over Union College when they head to Lakeland, Fla. to face Southeastern University at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Live coverage of the game will be aired locally on 88.7 The Tiger starting with The Tiger Tailgate Show at 6:30 p.m. ET. The voice of Tiger Football, Jim Freeman will be on the call alongside color analyst Matt Payton for the game between the Fire and the Tigers.

TIGER CLAWZ
  • The Tigers dominated in the second half against the Bulldogs on their way to a 52-14 win over Union behind a four touchdown performance from quarterback Talaileva Sufia, all in the third quarter of the game.
  • The Fire of Southeastern will be heading into the game at 2-0 so far on the season with a current NAIA ranking of 17th after starting the season 19th in the preseason poll.
  • Saturday's game was originally scheduled for Sept. 7 as CU's second game of the year and Southeastern's first game of the year but Hurrican Dorian's threat to the Florida coast forced the hand of both programs as they decided to move this game to Sept. 28.
  • Coming into Saturday's game, the Tigers have passed for the same amount of yards as they allow in the air on defense at 583, which averages out to 194.3 yards per game. CU has completed 14 more passes in only one more attempt on the season so the Tigers yars per complete is 11.9 compared to their opponents averaging 16.7 yards per completion.
  • Campbellsville has struggled in two specific areas, one on each side of the ball, so far in 2019 in forcing turnovers on defense and third down conversions on offense. Going into Week 4, the Tigers have only forced one turnover and their third down percentage is at 9-for-37 (24%) even after going 7-for-14 (50%)  against Union last Saturday.
  • With their win on Saturday, the Tigers become the second-to-last team in the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division to earn their first win of the 2019 season. Georgetown College is still winless on the year at 0-2 and the only other team with one loss in the division is newly added Thomas More University.
  • Southeastern will be the third NAIA ranked opponent that the Tigers will play within their first four games of the season. In the current rankings, CU will have three more games remaining against ranked foes.

SERIES FACTS: WELL, THAT'S A FIRST
  • This will be the very first match-up on the football field between Southeastern and Campbellsville as these two team have never faced off since the inception of the Southeastern football program in 2014.
  • The last time the Tigers played a team for the first time in program history happened three separate times in 2017 when they played Point and Ave Maria on the road in the regular season then Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the NCCAA Victory Bowl.

SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY
  • Through their first two games played this season, the Fire are one of the top teams in the Mid-South Conference and the NAIA with a 54-15 win most recently against Georgetown and their season-opening win against Point 27-6.
  • Coming in averaging over 40 points per game and allowing only 10.5 points per game, SEU has shown to be a balanced team on both sides of the ball, gaining over 400 yards of total offense per game and allowing 262.5 yards per game.
  • At quarterback, Cooper Jones has gotten off to a hot start, completing 50-percent of his passes (25-50) for 442 yards, four touchdowns and only a single interception.
  • Defensively, the Fire have a tandem of defensive backs who have made their presence felt early on as Tyrail Davis and Chris Thompson each have two interceptions and six pass break-ups.

MOORE'S CAREER NIGHT
  • Campbellsville senior linebacker Darius Moore has been one of the top players on defense for the Tigers, leading the team in total tackles through three games at 36 so far this season.
  • He is also leading both the solo tackle and assisted tackle categories with 22 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles.
  • Most recently he recorded career-highs in tackles in a game (15), solo tackles (9), and tackles for a loss (7.5) to lead the CU defense to their outstanding second half, shutting out the Union offense through three of the four quarters.
  • That performance against the Bulldogs helped Moore earn the honor of Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
  • That player of the week honor was the second of Moore's CU career, the first for a CU player this season, and the first conference honor for a Tiger football player since Noah Bicksler earned Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 1, 2018.

SUFIA FINDS A GROOVE
  • Though he didn't get the starting call last Saturday, sophomore quarterback Talaileva Sufia was one of the main reasons the Tigers picked up their first win of 2019 against Union.
  • Sufia passed for 171 yards while going 12-for-22 with three passing touchdowns and no turnovers in the game. He also added 39 yards of rushing and a touchdown with his legs in the game with his longest rush going for 14 yards.
  • Sufia was especially strong in the third quarter, where he scored all of this touchdowns, throwing two TD passes to Kendon Young, one TD pass to Zachary Cole, and scoring his rushing touchdown with a nine-yard scamper into the end zone.
  • Young was a huge target for both Sufia and Chase Wilson, who started and ended the game, the senior receiver from Campbellsville caught six passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns.

READY TO COME HOME AND STAY THERE
  • After Saturday's road game in Florida, the Tigers will be home for three-straight games the next three Saturdays, their longest homestand of the season.
  • Campbellsville will host Georgetown College, Thomas More University and University of Pikeville in October as their second, third, and fourth home games of the 2019 season.
  • Saturday, Oct. 5 will be a busy day at Finley Stadium prior to CU's football game against Georgetown as there will also be a soccer double header as both the women's and men's teams will host Shawnee State at noon and 2 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
  • The Oct. 19 game against University of Pikeville will be Homecoming for the Tigers as they open their arms to welcome back former Tigers to Finley Stadium.
