Women's Volleyball CU Athletics

Lady Tigers head south for five matches in three days in Tennessee

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After winning all three of their home matches over a span of seven days, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team will begin a stretch of seven matches away from home with five matches over the next three days in the state of Tennessee.
 
It will start on Thursday night when they face Martin Methodist College for the second time in nine days when the Lady Tigers face the Redhawks in Pulaski, Tenn. at 7 p.m.CT/8 p.m. ET.
 
That will be followed by CU heading to Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the Music City Invitational on Friday and Saturday to play four total matches against Brewton-Parker, Freed-Hardeman, Indiana University East, and Asbury.
 
Last Time Out
 
  • The Lady Tigers swept their way to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-18 win in their first Mid-South Conference match against University of Pikeville on Tuesday.
  • CU had 16 different players take the court against the Bears with nine recording a kill led by Sutton Mason with 12 and Sonia Flendrich with 11.
  • Four freshman saw their first action on the court of home court at Gosser Gymnasium on Tuesday as MaKayla Gray, Danielle Cloutier, Georgina Julia, got their first collegiate action and Man Chin Fung saw the court for the first time for a home match.
 
Scouting Martin Methodist
 
  • The Redhawks will head into Thursday's match with a 2-4 record with their most recent match resulting in a win over Fisk University.
  • MMC has five offensive players with kill totals between 40 and 34 so far on the season led by the 40 from Lauren Martin followed by 39 for Aerial Williams, 35 each for Kara Nelms and Kailtyn Lund, then 34 for Chandler Salvig.
 
Scouting Brewton-Parker
 
  • The Barons will head into the Music City Invite winless at 0-4 with two losses to Pensacola Christian and a loss apiece to both Point and Columbia International.
  • BPC has four players with double digit kills numbers led by Mo Sutphin with 26 kills so far in their first four matches.
 
Scouting Freed-Hardeman
 
  • The Lions have a similar one-loss record to the Lady Tigers at 5-1 and their match against CU will be their first match of the tournament.
  • FHU's wins have come against Crowley's Ridge, Fisk twice, Brenau, Southeastern and a loss against Life University.
  • Freed-Hardeman has a tandem of triple-digit kills on the attack in Claire Walker and Kacey Donegan as they each head into the weekend with 100 kills even.
 
Scouting Indiana East
 
  • The Red Wolves are 1-4 so far on the season and will face both Brewton-Park and Freed-Hardeman on Friday before starting their Saturday against CU.
  • IUE also has a tie at the top of their kills leaders list with 50 apiece from Breanna Kopke and Genesis Semfle Millsde through their first five matches of the 2019 season.
 
Scouting Asbury
 
  • The Eagles have had a limited schedule in the early going with their only matches coming against Mid-South Conference opponents in Lindsey Wilson and University of the Cumberlands where they dropped both matches 3-1 and 3-2 respectively.
  • With only two matches played so far, AU has a team total of 89 kills with four individuals in double digits led by 24 from Lizzy Rempel.
 
Looking Ahead
  • After their trip to Tennessee CU will have a single day off on Sunday before heading back on the road, this time to Portsmouth, Ohio for another MSC match, this time against Shawnee State.
  • They will have another quick turnaround after that match when they head to Owensboro, Ky. to face Brescia, on Tuesday before finally returning home on Thursday Sept. 12.
