BECKLEY, W.Va. – Coming off of a pair of huge home wins, the Campbellsville University women's soccer team hit the road for their second road game of 2019 against West Virginia University Tech on Saturday afternoon.
With their first road game of the year ending in a disappointing 1-0 loss to Asbury, the Lady Tigers were looking to avoid a repeat road performance against the Golden Bears.
In the early going, it looked like history could have repeated itself as the two teams went into halftime locked in a scoreless tie after the first 45 minutes. In the first half, CU outshot WVU Tech 10-1 with five of the Campbellsville shots coming on target but none finding the net.
The best chance of the half for the Lady Tigers was when they drew a foul in the box and were awarded a penalty kick by the referee. CU's leading goal scorer,
Molly Hall, got the call to take the PK but unfortunately put too much power behind it as the shot went high.
Campbellsville was able to take advantage of two of their opportunities in the second half as
Jessie Bryson and
Sangmin Cha scored for the Lady Tigers. Both goals were scored on breakaways as Bryson scored in the 55
th minute on a nice pass from
Molly Hall and Cha scored in the 87
th minute on an assist from
Lakin Walls.
That win makes it three-straight for the Lady Tigers as they will return home for another two-game homestand over the next 10 days. Their next contest will be next Wednesday at home against Bluefield College at 5:30 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
