Women's Golf CU Athletics

Parrott and Coffey fall off the pace in final round, finish tied for third at Bill Sergent Invite

PINEVILLE, Ky. — Trailing by three strokes going into the final round, Lady Tiger golf couldn't overcome the deficit and fell off the pace to finish runner-up at the season-opening Bill Sergent Invitational at Wasioto Winds. 
 
The Lady Tigers finished shooting 308 and 320 in the two-round tournament, while University of the Cumberlands was eight strokes better on Sunday than the first round shooting 305 and 297. 
 
Freshmen Gracie Parrott and Abigail Coffey finished tied for third after firing matching 74-78 in the two rounds to earn All-Tournament honors. Both were leading the field after Saturday's first round but Cumberlands' Carlee Shoemaker and Brianna Baird both fired 72 to jump the Campbellsville rookies on the leaderboard. 
 
Both fell victim to multiple double bogeys that proved as the deciding factors. Parrott started her day with a birdie on the par-four first hole and also carded red numbers at the par-three sixth, but a pair of bogeys and a double dropped her off the pace. 
 
On the back nine, Parrott fell victim to another pair of bogeys and a double to shoot 78 in her first-collegiate tournament. 
 
Coffey started red hot with three birdies and six pars on the front nine holes. Going into the back-nine at three under, Coffey shot eight-over with two bogeys and three doubles to fall back. 
 
Sophomore Madison Ferrie struggled in her final round with a 12-over 84 and finished tied for 11th. Freshmen Briley Carter improved by four strokes in her final round to jump up the leaderboard to 13thwith 84-80. Lastly, April Houk fell back three strokes shooting 81-84. 

The Lady Tigers now have two weeks to prepare for the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship. The qualifier for the NCCAA Championship is scheduled for Thursday-Friday, Sept. 26-27 at Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon, Ind.
