No. 1 Lady Tigers and No. 7 Bears renew the rivalry Saturday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's basketball team will compete against Mid-South Conference rival and seventh ranked Shawnee State University Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET at the Powell Athletic Center.
 
Matt Payton and Benji Kelly will be courtside for the action as they will bring the call to the airwaves of WLCU-TV and FM on Comcast Channel 10 and 88.7 The Tiger as well as the game being available online at www.campbellsvilletigers.com/watch.
 
The Lady Tigers earned a 78-56 victory over University of Pikeville Thursday night behind a career-high tying 18 points for Caitlin Hall and a 25-4 first quarter. CU also had games in double figures from Savannah Gregory (16), Madison Faulkner (13), and Lexy Lake (10) as Gregory also added a team-high eight rebounds and five steals for one of the best games of the season for the redshirt junior.
 
Campbellsville also forced Pikeville to commit 31 turnovers for the ninth time this season CU has forced an opponent to 30 or more turnovers.
 
SERIES FACTS
  • The series history between the Lady Tigers and Bears has be almost as close as it gets with Shawnee State holding a slim two-game advantage at 17-15 all-time.
  • CU broke a six-game winning streak by Shawnee State from 2016-2018 by sweeping the season series last season, winning the two regular season matchups then the MSC Tournament Championship game on Mar. 4, 2019.
  • Last year's championship game in Pikeville came by a final score of 64-50 as the Lady Tigers were led by Jordan Doram's 21 points along with a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double from Madison Faulkner.
  • Over the previous six seasons, the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship has come from either Campbellsville or Shawnee State with the Bears winning four-straight from 2015-2018 sandwiched inside of the 2019 and 2014 tournament titles for the Lady Tigers.
  • During that stretch of championship success for both programs, the two teams faced off in the tournament five of the six seasons with four matchups coming in the championship game.
 
SCOUTING Shawnee State
  • The Bears will come into the matchup as the highest ranked opponent at the time of the meeting that the Lady Tigers have faced this season.
  • Shawnee State also sits in second place in the Mid-South Conference standings heading into the weekend, however, they lost their most recent game on the road against Lindsey Wilson College on Thursday by a final score of 87-77.
  • Guard Bailey Cummins has been one of the best players in the Mid-South Conference through non-conference into the new year as she ranks second in the MSC in scoring average (17.5) and leads the conference in assists per game (6.2).
 
TIGER CLAWZ
  • Campbellsville is the No. 1 assisting team in NAIA Division I with a team total of 350 so far behind starting point guard Caitlin Hall's 106 assists, good for No. 2 individually in that category.
  • Forcing turnovers has been a big part of the CU game plan through the early portion of the schedule as they force their opponents into 26.8 turnovers per game and rank first in NAIA DI in total steals at 280 this season.
  • The three-point shot has been a big benefit for the Lady Tiger offense as they rank No. 2 in the NAIA in team three-point percentage at 39.5 percent behind one of the best three-point shooters in NAIA DI as Lexy Lake ranks No. 1 in total threes made (67), No. 3 in threes made per game (3.7), and No. 8 in three-point percentage (46.9%).
 
INDIVIDUAL MILESTONES WATCH
  • Upper classmen in the CU starting lineup have been and will be climbing the all-time leader boards in the history of Lady Tiger basketball.
  • Starting with Madison Faulkner joining the 1,000-point club, she now sits at 29th on the all-time scoring list and will likely have a teammate join her on that list as Savannah Gregory currently sits at 982 career points.
  • Gregory is also in the top-five on the career steals list as she is currently at 278, recently passing Mackenzie Lee for fourth all-time.
  • Senior Caitlin Hall currently has 527 career assists, recently becoming the sixth player to reach 500 assists in program history. Hall has the opportunity to hit the 600-assist mark by the end of the season if she continues on her current 5.9 assist per game pace.
 
BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
  • With the Lady Tigers off to a 18-0 start to the 2019-20 season, CU continues into the bulk of Mid-South Conference play with their best undefeated stretch to start a season in program history.
  • Prior to this season, the best unbeaten streak to start a season for Campbellsville women's basketball came in the 2014-15 season when they started 10-0.
  • After losing their 11th game of that season, the Lady Tigers proceeded to win 13-straight to move to 23-1 before eventually finishing with a 33-4 record and a trip to the NAIA National Championship game.
  • This winning streak has also been a pretty dominant one for Campbellsville as they currently sit with a +26.4 scoring margin, good for No. 1 in the NAIA as they have 15 total double digit wins and 10 wins by 20 or more points.
 
1,000-WIN PLATEAU
  • In the 45th season of Lady Tiger basketball history, Campbellsville reached a milestone that had only been accomplished twice before in the history of NAIA women's basketball, win 1,000 games as a program.
  • The monumental win came in the Lady Tigers 91-59 win over Martin Methodist College last Saturday in Pulaski, Tenn. as part of the MSC/SSAC Crossover.
  • Campbellsville joins Wayland Baptist and Union University (Tenn.) as the only other programs to reach the feat as Union is no longer part of the NAIA after moving to the NCAA Division II level.
 
UP NEXT FOR CU
  • Campbellsville women's basketball will only play a single game next week when they host the University of the Cumberlands at the Powell Athletic Center next Thursday night at 6 p.m. ET.
  • The Lady Tigers will have next Saturday off before returning to action on Jan. 23.
