CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 2 team in the NAIA rankings moved to 10-0 to start the 2020 season, as the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team earned a sweep win against Goshen College Friday night at the Gosser Gymnasium.
The Tigers were dominant once again in 25-9, 25-20, and 25-12 set wins as CU had 27 more kills in the match than the Maple Leafs with the total kills finishing at 38-11. Campbellsville almost had as many blocks (10) as the 11 kills from Goshen and aces went the way of CU with a final total of 6-1.
Rafael Cruz was the leading attacker for the Tigers finishing with a match-high nine kills as he was supported by
Yannik Ahr's eight kills and six kills from
Ramon Matos. Matos finished with seven blocks for the second-straight match as he finished with six block assists and a solo block.
The nine kills for Cruz came on only 14 attacks with two errors as he finished with a .500 hitting percentage in the match. Taking advantage of his opportunity,
Max Stotridge only played in the third set then went 3-for-3 in his attack attempts without an error.
Noah Henkel also added three blocks,
Jason Camacho,
Mats Radzuweit, and Cruz finished with two block assists, with Ahr and Stotridge each had a block assist.
Jeremy Hernandez led the Tigers with 19 assists with Camacho adding 12 as the two setters rotated with Camacho on the front row and Hernandez as the back row setter.
Jose Viera Cerame,
Joudiel Poveymirow, and
John Montalvo were strong on the back row for CU as they combined for 15 digs with Viera Cerame and Poveymirow adding two kills apiece.
The Tigers will be right back at Gosser Gymnasium tomorrow afternoon when they host Life University at 3 p.m. ET after Life and Goshen face off in a neutral match earlier on Saturday morning.
