CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's basketball team will get right back to the court on Monday night as they head to Marietta, Ga. for a Mid-South Conference road game against Life University at 6 p.m. ET.
Matt Payton, the voice of Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball, will be on the call on 88.7 The Tiger as he will be courtside from The Eagles' Nest gym at Life for both games on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers are coming off of one of their best three-point shooting games of the season and one of the best individual shooting performances in school history on Saturday against Cumberland University.
As a team, the Lady Tigers went 15-for-26 (57.7%) from deep as the 15 made threes was their highest total in a game this season and 57.7 percent was their second-best number of 2019-20.
Lexy Lake tied the single game record for three-pointers made in a game with her nine triples while scoring a career-high 29 points in CU's 86-58 win.
SERIES FACTS
- Campbellsville and Life have a limited history that has been more recent since the Running Eagles joined the Mid-South Conference in 2016-17.
- The Lady Tigers have won every matchup since that time as every game has had a double-digit margin of victory for CU and head coach Ginger High Colvin.
- There have been three recorded games between Life and Campbellsville prior to the 2016-17 season with the teams meeting once in three-straight seasons from 1999-00 to 2001-02.
- The home team won each of those games with CU earning two home wins, one in 1999 and the other in 2001 with the Running Eagles earning a 74-67 win in Marietta on Feb. 15, 2001 during the 2000-01 season.
- Last season, the Lady Tigers held Life under 60 points in both of CU's victories as the Feb. 9 win was highlighted by Savannah Gregory's triple double where she scored 17 points while adding 10 steals and 10 rebounds.
BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY
- With the Lady Tigers off to a 16-0 start to the 2019-20 season, CU continues into the bulk of Mid-South Conference play with their best undefeated stretch to start a season in program history.
- Prior to this season, the best unbeaten streak to start a season for Campbellsville women's basketball came in the 2014-15 season when they started 10-0.
- After losing their 11th game of that season, the Lady Tigers proceeded to win 13-straight to move to 23-1 before eventually finishing with a 33-4 record and a trip to the NAIA National Championship game.
- The 2019 portion of the schedule has been a pretty dominant one for Campbellsville as well with a +27.6 scoring margin, good for No. 2 in the NAIA as they have 13 total double digit wins and nine wins by 20 or more points.
SCOUTING LIFE
- The Running Eagles head into the week with a 7-6 overall record and an 0-3 start to MSC play after starting their conference schedule against Pikeville and Shawnee State in December then falling to Lindsey Wilson on Saturday at home.
- Life started the season on a five-game win streak and moved to 6-1 before struggling as of late to come into Monday's game losing five of their last six with their lone win coming by a 66-62 final at Fisk University.
- The tandem of Tierra Lindsey and Sydni Tears combine to be the top two scorers and rebounders for Life as Lindsey leads the way in the scoring category averaging 12.4 points per game and second in rebounds with a 6.1 average with Tears as the leading rebounder, grabbing 6.5 boards per game while adding 11.6 points per game.
TIGER CLAWZ
- Campbellsville is the No. 1 assisting team in NAIA Division I with a team total of 322 so far behind starting point guard Caitlin Hall's 98 assists, good for No. 2 individually in that category.
- Forcing turnovers has been a big part of the CU game plan through the early portion of the schedule as they force their opponents into 27.1 turnovers per game and rank first in NAIA DI in total steals at 252 this season.
- The three-point shot has been a big benefit for the Lady Tiger offense as they rank No. 2 in the NAIA in team three-point percentage at 40.9 percent behind one of the best three-point shooters in NAIA DI as Lexy Lake ranks No. 1 in total threes made (64), No. 3 in threes made per game (4.0), and No. 4 in three-point percentage (49.2%).
INDIVIDUAL MILESTONES WATCH
- Upper classmen in the CU starting lineup have been and will be climbing the all-time leader boards in the history of Lady Tiger basketball.
- Starting with Madison Faulkner joining the 1,000-point club, she now sits at 29th on the all-time scoring list and will likely have a teammate join her on that list as Savannah Gregory currently sits at 957 career points.
- Gregory is also in the top-five on the career steals list as she is currently at 272, recently passing Beth Grant for fifth all-time.
- Senior Caitlin Hall currently has 519 career assists, recently becoming the sixth player to reach 500 assists in program history. Hall has the opportunity to hit the 600-assist mark by the end of the season if she continues on her current 6.1 assist per game pace.
- Lake's current total of 64 three-pointers and 4.0 average made threes per game has her on pace to break Emily Fox's single season mark of 110 three-pointers made in a season by the end of the regular season.
1,000-WIN PLATEAU
- In the 45th season of Lady Tiger basketball history, Campbellsville reached a milestone that had only been accomplished twice before in the history of NAIA women's basketball, win 1,000 games as a program.
- The monumental win came in CU's 91-59 win over Martin Methodist College last Saturday in Pulaski, Tenn. as part of the MSC/SSAC Crossover.
- Campbellsville joins Wayland Baptist and Union University (Tenn.) as the only other programs to reach the feat as Union is no longer part of the NAIA after moving to the NCAA Division II level.
UP NEXT FOR CU
- After this single road game, the Lady Tigers will host Pikeville and Shawnee State on Jan. 9 and Jan. 11 at home.
