CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Over a month removed from their most recent head-to-head competition during the 2020 season, the Campbellsville University men's soccer team will get back into action for the NCCAA postseason as they meet up against Oakland City University for the NCCAA Mid-East Regional.
The game will be played on Wednesday night in Evansville, Ind. at an off-campus location at the Goebbel Soccer Complex.
The Tigers and the Mighty Oaks have already faced off in Oakland City this fall as CU earned a 4-0 win to open up their season on Sept. 20. In that game, Campbellsville got their goals from
Gianluca Contegno,
Sergio Tarrida,
Tom Edge, and
Scott Brooksbank with
Gustav Oskarsson and
Matys Savigny recording assists in the game.
Campbellsville continued on to only play one more official game in the regular season as they earned a 7-0 win over Brescia University a week later. Five of the seven goals were scored by the tandem of Tarrida and
Sebastiano Musu as Musu recorded a hat trick and Tarrida added two.
Both of those strikers for CU hold a tie for the team lead in goals this season with three as both
Kalvin Semedo and
Gustav Oskarsson are the only other players with multiple points recorded this season with both having a goal and an assist on the season.
The goalkeepers for Campbellsville haven't had to make a lot of saves so far this season but starter
Jeremi Campagnolo and
Edoardo Forastieri have both made three saves on the season without allowing any goals through two games.
The Tigers have been able to scrimmage and be on the practice field sparingly since the Sept. 26 win over the Bearcats but have ramped training into full gear to prepare for this NCCAA postseason.
OCU has been able to play more of their fall season, completing nine games so far to this point and going 4-5 in the process. They have been able to play more recently than Campbellsville but haven't earned a win since Oct. 3 when they won 3-2 over Indiana University East. The Mighty Oaks are currently riding a four-game losing streak, most recently dropping their regular season finale 5-2 to Point Park University.
Julio Rojo is the leading goal scorer for Oakland City as he has put six shots into the back of the net in six games played while also adding an assist on the season. Goalkeeper Arthur Hill has played every minute in net for the Mighty Oaks and boasts a 1.89 goals against average and .712 save percentage.
With a win, the Tigers would then move onto the NCCAA National Tournament to be played next week in Kissimmee, Fla. for a chance to win the NCCAA National Championship.
