Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Campbellsville University men's soccer team returned to game action in style Wednesday night as they earned a 5-0 win over Oakland City University to claim the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Championship.
The win secures the Tigers a berth into the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Fla. next week as CU moves to 3-0 here in the fall. The victory marks the second win of the fall CU has over Oakland City after a 4-0 win on the road to begin their 2020 season.
CU got the scoring started early as
Gustav Oskarsson found the back of the net off of an assist from
Eleder Goicoechea in the seventh minute. That goal was followed up about 10 minutes later as
Tom Edge scored his second goal against the Mighty Oaks this season in the 18
th minute firing a long shot from outside the 18-yard box.
After the Tigers went into the locker room with the dangerous two-goal lead, it was Edge who, once again, got on the board with his second of the night, this time off of a
Connor Grant assist in the 56
th minute.
Campbellsville notched two more scores before the end of the night to pull their lead to up to the 5-0 final score as
Sebastiano Musu got his fourth goal of the season in the 59
th minute and
Lorenzo Jiminez scored his first goal of the season in the 88
th minute to put a bow on the victory.
The goalkeeper combination of starter
Jeremi Campagnolo and
Edoardo Forastieri still have not allowed a goal against this season as Campagnolo played a majority of the game through the middle of the second half before giving way to Forastieri to close out the shutout.
With the win, the Tigers place into Pool C of the NCCAA National Tournament to begin next Monday in Kissimmee where they have been placed as the No. 3 see in a group with Erskine College and Dallas Baptist University.
