CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A trip through the country roads of West Virginia will start the 2020-21 season for the Campbellsville University women's basketball team as they will face West Virginia Tech in Beckley W.V. on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
West Virginia Tech will not be allowing any fans into the game on Saturday but the game will be streamed by WVUT for free through
www.portal.stretchinternet.com/wvutech. Live scoring of the game can also be followed on Dakstats along with live updates to be posted periodically on @LTB_CU on Twitter.
The Lady Tigers are coming off of a 29-3 season in 2019-20 prior to the season stoppage before the start of the NAIA Tournament as they will face a Golden Bear team that has won their first game of the current season by a score of 80-65 last Saturday against Bluefield College. These two teams faced off last season in Campbellsville as the Lady Tigers came away with the victory 83-68 on Nov. 26, 2019.
RETURNING DEPTH
- Campbellsville routinely boasts some of the best depth in the NAIA and 2020-21 is no different as 10 players return from the 2019-20 Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship team.
- Those returners include guards Savannah Gregory, Shyla Calbert, Madison Sheppard, Faith Lake, Lexy Lake, and Bailey Pedigo along with forwards Ashlee McGeorge, Lashaya Carman, and Courtney Pritchett with senior Sammy Rogers able to play both guard and forward positions.
- Gregory is coming off of an NAIA Second Team All-American season in 2019-20 where she averaged 13.8 points per game, second best on the team, and grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game, which led the team.
- Led by returning starters in Lexy Lake, Gregory, and Pritchett, increased roles for the players that came off the bench last season with the loss of 2019-20 seniors and starters Caitlin Hall and Madison Faulkner is inevitable for the Lady Tigers.
WELCOME NEWCOMERS
- Despite only losing three members of the 2019-20 team coming into this season, head coach Ginger High Colvin and the rest of the CU coaching staff went hard on the recruiting trail bringing in seven newcomers.
- The incoming class includes six freshmen in guards Lauren Lee, Gracie Thompson, and Elizabeth Bertram along with forwards Maddie Nalley, Madison Drummonds, and Ashtani Gore.
- Sophomore transfer Sarah Sutton comes to Campbellsville this season by way of Murray State as the former Allen County-Scottsville product will look to add depth in the front court for the Lady Tigers this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Lady Tigers will have a day off on Sunday before hosting their home opener next Monday when they welcome the Union College Bulldogs to the Powell Athletic Center. It will be the first meeting between Union and Campbellsville since 2008 when CU won 80-68.
